Hello,

I'm just starting with Bates Method (gathering materials to study etc.) and I'd like to start with practicing it as soon as possible.

I'm 37, male, working on a computer. My left eye (when not tired) sees almost perfect, the right one is much worse (nearsighted) and getting worse year by year. I have never been wearing glasses.

I have two questions:

1. Is it correct to do the exercises (e.g. shifting) with my left (correct) eye covered?

2. I have a special problem in distinguishing human faces (on the street etc.). I can read distant sings but I have a problem to see the faces. Is there any good activity for treating it?

Thanks a lot.

1. Experiment, play with it. If it were me I'd patch the left eye and do some practice with the right eye alone, then un-patch it and use both eyes together, making sure the right eye is still involved.
2. It's only a guess, but you may be more comfortable looking at inanimate signs than at human faces where there's a possibility of interaction, so faces are a pessimum for you and you see them worse. Practice, imagining the faces are friendly people who like you!

Thank you, once more.

It seems that my right-eye vision is really getting better!
At the beginning, I printed a sort of snellen chart and now I can read letters in 60% size than before (20/20 in flashes of clear vision).
On the other hand, there is still big halo around the Moon and light sources when looking at them with my right eye. I don't know how to get rid of it. If there is any good activity to do, I'd be grateful to know. Thanks!

Still struggling with faces (both eyes). You are probably right with the stress. When looking out of the window (from the safety of our home), I recoginize faces and mimics at 120 - 150 feet. In the street I need at least 30 feet to see anything (no matter if it is a man/woman/young/old...).

Don't push yourself, putting pressure on your vision to improve at some rate you think it "should", or grab for that clarity which seems so elusive -- that mindset may be part of why your vision started declining (it was for me, trying to be more and more perfect as a child). Appreciate whatever you see, no matter what the quality of your vision at that moment, and it will likely get better on its own. The enthusiasm reflected in
