I've read a lot about how printing and hanging a Snellen chart in one's home is a good idea. But something that I haven't seen mentioned is, "What size Snellen chart to print?" I printed out two today..... one on 8.5x10 paper and another on 13x19 paper. Which one do I use? The bigger one looks more like the ones I've seen in doctor's offices but, it's been a long time since I've seen one.

Well technically there are two answers. A: You can practice with both charts shifting just fine. B: The height of the letters is the actual determining factor on both charts on whether or not they are accurate measurements. i-see.org has a section on eye charts, and they have measurements so that you can take a tape measure to the height of the letters and see if they match up.

If both charts line up fine with the measurements, then it is totally at your discretion which one to use. The bigger the letter, the farther away you can be to see it.

Hi Susan, FiatLux is right, both are useful for practice!

You may notice that one helps you more than the other, so just experiment and find out. I am a huge Snellen chart fan, and have two pages on my blog you might be interested in. The first page is more general, how to use it and how to get measurements from it:

The second pages details how to improve eyesight with it:

The chart has been immensely hepful in my own vision improvement.

Best wishes,
Sorrisi
