I thought it would be neat to have a little guestbook here where you can post comments about the site, suggestions for site content, or questions or comments about the Bates Method, vision improvement in general, or anything else related. Even negative comments are welcome, if they're constructive.

I'll check back here now and then. Have fun!

Dear David,

My name is Giovanni, Italian, age 30, moderately myopic.

Even if you are not a qualified Bates teacher, your web site is the best web site about Vision Improvement.

Perhaps because It's not a commercial one. With all those articles You are making a great gift to the humanity.

I first read about eye exercises in the Daily Mail, about
3 years ago. It was a write up about a book on this subject. I cut out the article and the illustrations of the exercises.
I practise the exercises during the TV advertisments and I do feel it has improved my eye sight. My last pair of glasses were very much weaker and the lens were lighter.
So I am hopeful that I will continue to improve my situation, as my lens were heavy and I was not comfortable wearing heavy glasses.

Many thanks for your effort to inform more people to try to get the confidence to do something.

Hello

I appreciate this site and its promotion of the Bates method. I came upon the method by browsing the book store and just happened to pick up a copy of Bates book without having any previous knowledge about it. I remember putting the book back thinking it didn't make any sense. I must have picked it up about a month later and looked at it a little more indepthly. From that point I stopped wearing my glasses totally. They were -1.25 diopters in each eye. It was difficult to drive at first but I decided I wouldn't let my eyes get any worse by wearing negative lenses. I went for about a year without glasses without really doing any exercises and not much improvement. After that I decided to look into it again. So i've been without glasses for about a year and a half now and my vision is really very good. I started to have "clear flashes" a while after I ceased to wear glasses and after exercising daily the clear flashes just gradually became my normal vision. I keep a snellen eye chart in my room and notice that for most of the time my vision is 20/20. Sometimes it's actually better, sometimes it's worse. If I could say anything about vision improvement, it would be that for most myopes, the problem is not the eyes, but in how we regard the picture. I thought I understood the idea of "central fixation" early on... but it has only been in the past week that it has really sunk in. I look forward to my vision improving even more. My biggest problem now is probably night vision but I have faith that this too will improve. Things that helped me regain site... 1) palming before bedtime (I actually just wear a pair of completely black goggles to do this for about 20 minutes each night. 2) Going back and forth from eccentric fixation (regarding the whole picture at once [bad habit]) too central fixation (regarding only fine details at a time [good habit])... meaning I bring my eyes in and out of focus while looking at a chart so that I familiarize my mind with the way to see properly and the way to see poorly (so it can be avoided) 3) Swinging... looking from the left side of an object to the right side.. and doing this repeatedly. Have faith! the best thing you can do is get to a point where you can function without corrective lenses. I appreciate the site for its promotion of truth because the truth shall set you free. Thank you

Hello.

I am a 17-year-old boy from Hong Kong. It is glad to see the webmaster of this website has done so much to improve this site, making it the best and the most informative of its kind.

I have become aware of the Bates Method about since last year, if I am correct, by searching on the Internet. You know, for places like Hong Kong, the Bates Method is rarely known. This is really frustrating, since I can get no support from a professional of the field. Doubts are often the only responses from people when I tell them of the Method. Yet, I decided to try the Method since I believe in the self-healing power of the human body.

I have now reduced the use of my glasses. In fact, I dislike them. They tire me a lot, since both of my eyes are "very myopic" (about -6.5). I have been myopic since Primary 4. (equivalent to Grade 4, I think) I was about 10, and a year before I was facing a lot of changes in my life. My father left my family and I moved to live with my grandmother, followed by a change to a new school. Maybe psychologically stressed, my vision became blurred. I have read books by Peter Mansfield and Jacob Liberman, both of which suggest a connection between sight and the mind.

I think my process of regaining "good" eyesight may take a long time, because my study is becoming heavier as to prepare for entering university. But I will try my best to follow Dr. Bates' method whenever possible, and I believe that Dr. Bates would regain the recognition in history which is overdue.

Very nice webpage. Thanks a lot for the copy of the book!
I read about similar methods several years ago, but never really found any book, and gave up. I guess I'll give it another shot.

By own experience, I have noticed that stress and strain does degrade my sight, so when I stumbled upon Bates' theories on the net, it sounds very convincing. And as I see it: compared to other methods out there, I have nothing to risk or loose.

Dear Dr. Gottlieb,
Interestingly enough, we share common views (no pun intended) regarding myopia. I did my doctoral dissertation experimental research on myopia. My work was entitled, "Psychological characteristics of boys with myopia." Since that time, I have presented papers on possible psychological factors contributing to the tension or apprehension of which Kelly spoke. I would be interested in corresonding with you about, what appears to be common perspectives on the subject.

Me parece un excelente medio de difusión de este método a nivel mundial. Sería muy bueno que se pudiera traducir al castellano para que las personas hispanohablantes se beneficiaran del mismo. Thank you very much for this website. I was prescribed glasses 20 years ago but as I walked out of the surgery I decided to go to the library and found a reprint of Bates. Did the exercises, threw away the glasses, and every visual exam since then has confirmed I have excellent eyesight in my left eye (mostly blind in right eye, iatrogenic cause via surgery).

I trust more will become aware that there is more to seeing than the current conventional wisdom. Sites like this will go a long way to helping others realise that there is a lot they can do to improve and preserve their vision.

Hi all from Finland !

This is a great and very useful site ! I´ve followed the method now since mid-July 2003. I have had a pretty strong myopia, about -7,5 D.
It is interesting to see, how soon I´ll be able to see much better. The most amazing thing was when I started applying the Bates method, (actually now the second time as I´m ready for this not until now), that it seemed to affect all parts of my life, not only the eyeballs. I think I have begun to SEE differently and re-evaluate also my life and choices. And everything in a more RELAXED way. I know there might be some challenges on my way to get free from wearing glasses, but I´m sure now that I am on my path to get "healed" sooner or later ! I wish courage and persistence to all wanting to get cured.

I was searching for information on refractive surgery and stumbled upon the Bates method. After several links I found my self here and I'm shocked that I have never heard of this -not that I've heard everything-. I'm going to research more about it. I've worn glasses to correct myopia (-2.25 both eyes) since I was 12. And I'm 28 now and my prescription has not changed since. I'm feeling excited about learning more and implementing it. I sure hope to start seeing "flashes" when I do. I guess I have to find a course or litertature first. It may be difficult to give up my glasess but it sure will be worth it. Ha! (I've got this great feeling I can't explain)

This day, on 30th October, 2003 I take oath in the name of God that from today onwards I will start practicing this method and will keep you posted every six months about my progress.

My right eye is -0.5 sph -6.00 cyl
My left eye is -7.0 sph -2.00 cyl

An amazing pair of eyes! And only I know how the world look with glasses off. Been wearing them for the last 18 years. I was 12 years old and started with RE -0.5 sph -4.00 cyl and LE -3.00 sph -0.0 cyl. Then, started getting eye exams and ultimately in 1993 it all settled to the present condition which has been stable for the last 10 years, with of course a bit of floaters, pain, strain all the time. If only I could fix it to my 12 year old level.

I indend to devote one hour to it everyday as follows:
Palming 30 min., swinging 15 min., eye exercises 5 min, neck exercises 5 min. and splashing. I will try to be more relaxed towards life, take things as they come etc. (till now, I am like any typical myope - high strung, worrying, cynic).

Will keep you posted about my progress. Regards to all.

I was so happy to find your website.I didn't tell anyone because I thought no one would believe me.I was first able to see the atoms when I was about 18.Because I had studied biology at school I recognised what I was seeing.A collection of atoms or whatever they are darting around just like I had been taught at school. It was fascinating and I was able to switch back into seeing them in certain angles of strong sunlight.A few minutes.I have seen them on and off my whole life and recently was able to see microscopically some sort of bacteria within the plasma in my eye.I drew the bacteria and searched on the internet but could not find it.Again I saw it for a few minutes by switching into this vision and concentrating to clearly see its structure.Having studied biology it really was fascinating and again I told no one as they would think I was mad and I am certainly not.I am a high grade mature student in London and searching for the bacteria I found your website.Thank you Dr.Bates.I am also very religious, catholic, and when I pray I can see a blue light and sometimes a baby giving my prayers to the Queen of Heaven with her outstretched hand, with my eyes closed.I am telling the truth.I am a normal girl with very balanced view on life and love to study and learn.I was a top model for man years and was actually born in New York,Manhattan.

Giovanni <giovannicerri@interfree.it> from Italy
February 06, 2004 at 02:19 (GMT)

My name is Giovanni. I write the following because perhaps it can be useful to some of you who are exploring this fascinating website (Congratulations David).

After having been practicing the Bates Method for some time, my myopia is swinging between -2,5D and -1,5D, with frequent clear flashes.

The fundamental problem is muscular tension that has become chronical. In my case I feel a contraction like a bult or knot in my throat. This tension is in connection with the tension of other muscular groups inside my skull that compress and squeeze my eyeballs causing them to elongate and provoking the myopic condition.

How can I be sure of that?
Simple: when my throat gets completely relaxed, my sight becomes completely and perfectly clear.
Unfortunately after a minute or two the chronical tension comes back to my throat and the sight worsens again.
I consulted a psychologist and he told me that this knot in the throat depends on my tendency to experiment anxiety in my daily life.

And now, what am I doing to improve my eyesight'
First of all, I'm conducting a healthy life: I don't drink alcohol, I don't smoke, I don't...... no, no, that thing you are thinking is not unhealthy so I do it frequently.
I walk and do some fitness (including the mobility of neck and shoulders). I drink a lot of water and eat less than before (it is only anxiety that makes us eat too much), choosing fresh vegetables, fruit, and food with fiber.

But all this is only the foreword: the really important thing is RELAXATION. GENERAL RELAXATION to start with and SPECIFIC RELAXATION of certain muscles of the body.
For me the most useful techniques are:
PALMING (good long relaxing palming sessions)
SUNNING (with the sun or with an incandescent bulb, but always with your eyes closed)
ZOOMING (looking alternatively at a near object like your fingertip or a pen at 30 or 40 cm, and at a distant object)

I give importance to my posture in my daily life, while I'm sitting, standing, walking or sleeping.
And above all, the most important thing of all the system, I'm working on my personality. Do you know why?
Because the muscular relaxation you will gain from palming or sunning will be only limited and temporary, if you are still a nervous or anxious person.
Myopia is tension. This tension comes from anxiety (most myopes see the world through a fear filter), from an excessive perfectionism and attention to details (and consequent nervousness because nothing is perfect), from the excessive effort to reach an objective (lack of flexibility)or from a too intense and too unsatisfied sexual desire.

I'M SURE THAT I CAN CHANGE MY SIGHT CHANGING STEP BY STEP MY WAY OF SEEING THE WORLD. AND YOU CAN BE THE SAME.

My vision story has two parts. Part one: when i was kid, i read a lot and was keenly interested in astronomy, math, etc. My parents took me to a somewhat unconventional optometrist who prescribed glasses, said it would be for just a few years, they'd shape my eyes or something, and as an adult i wouldn't need glasses, at least not til my forties. This has been the case. I have not needed glasses for my adult life til a few years ago. In contrast, i had a cousin who also was a heavy reader, but her parents thought it was just a scam for optometrists to make money... but later she had to wear thick glasses all the time. Dr. Reindl (sp?) did something right. But now part two: a few years ago, i found i had to hold text farther away to read it. Slight farsightedness, not a problem in bright lights. But eventually just had to get glasses. I did meet Bob Zuraw who helps people with natural methods of improving eyesight, but i met a wonderful girlfriend, moved to Colorado etc. eventually just got glasses. The darn things are a bother to carry around, get scrathed and fingerprinted, and i don't like the barrier between me and the world. I am all gung-ho for trying the Bates thing, and very glad to have found this web site which is well organized, had real information, and already have learned something useful from Bates' 1920 book. But i guess i'd better not stay up til 4am reading...

Dave,
Keep up the good work. The ODs on sci.med.vision
just love to rip into Bates -- to make
themselves feel good I guess.
Bates was absolutly right about the minus lens
at 20/70 -- and going down to 20/200 at that
point. That is the sad truth of this difficult situation.
At least Bates had the guts to take that first step ...
Best,
Otis

In 1981 I stumbled across Dr. Bates' very old book in a municipal library. I had just gotten out of the Navy. I was 27. I had -4.25 sphere in one eye, and -4.0 in the other. (I had -2.00 in both eyes before I joined the Navy.) For the next two years I practiced the Bates exercises. (I also practiced hatha yoga, swimming, and a healthy, natural diet, high in minimally-processed foods, especially nuts, grains, fruits, and vegetables.) I knew that my eyesight was much better, and went to an O.D. When he told me that I was -2.25 in both eyes, I expressed my joy. He said I was crazy. A couple of weeks later, Mother Earth News published an issue with one of the cover stories being "20/20 vision without glasses". The article included a sidebar about Dr. Bates. I bought the magazine and took it to him, along with my Navy medical records and the last pair of glasses they issued me. He was still skeptical. Shortly afterward, I helped an acquaintance to use the Bates method to get back to 20/20. (He wasn't very bad before, but he wanted to be a military pilot. Turned out he was also colorblind, so he became a navigator instead.) Over the years, I've helped a few others to improve their vision. I know that if I could completely control my life, if I could just be a person of leisure, I could improve my vision to 20/20. But I'm a little lazy and a lot busy, so I am content that in the last 20 years, my vision has remained -2.25 in one eye, and changed to -2.5 in the other. I caution others to be careful in exercising the eyes, so as to not induce astigmatism like I did. (Don't over exercise in one direction, and perform exercises smoothly, evenly, completely.) The method works. Thanks so much for this site that I can refer others to.

Very interesting site. I have been doing exercises from the See Clearly Method and recently started using the Vision For Life program. I have not used my glasses for a long time because I was finding them very detrimental to any improvement. I had read much of the work of Bates and was happy to see that I was on the right track when I read the section which referred to clear flashes. I had mentioned that occurring to me to my relatives before I even read about it. Keep up the good work.

Hello,

I wanted to send you my story in case in could be helpful to anyone who is interested in improving their sight without surgery. Several years ago I took an evening course on natural vision improvement at the Learning Annex in Toronto, Ontario. I was introduced to the concept of natural vision improvement.

My left eye has always been weaker than my right, but my right eye was strong enough to carry me until university without wearing glasses. In my first year of university I found myself sitting closer and closer to the front of the classroom in order to be able to make out what the professors were writing. I think my lifestyle at the time contributed to the demise of my vision - I wanted to fit into the social scene and like my peers I was drinking too much beer. By the end of my first year at university I was wearing my first pair of glasses.

Over the course of the next decade my vision grew worse and I continually asked for the strongest perscription. I didn't realize that this wasn't helping matters. By the end of my twenties I had become allergic to contact lenses and anything else I put near my eyes - make-up included. If I hadn't become allergic to contact lenses I don't think I would have taken a natural vision improvement course. I would have settled with wearing contacts for the rest of my life. But I was now wearing glasses full-time and wearing glasses made me feel unattractive, no matter how funky the frame. I needed glasses for everything - watching tv, driving, reading sub-titles on films, even to properly see a person who was sitting a few feet away. When I looked in the mirror I couldn't make myself out clearly unless I put on my glasses.

In 1997 I saw an ad for an evening course in the Learning Annex magazine and I attended. I learned that by constantly wearing glasses (and asking for the strongest perscription) I was making my vision worse. The following year I left on a trip to Asia for a year and wore perscription sunglasses the entire time. I was seeing new and beautiful sights and I wanted everything to be in focus. But upon my return home I just stopped wearing glasses altogether. I also changed my life-style - quit social drinking/smoking, coffee and cleaned up my diet, especially omitting sugar. I don't know if that made much difference, but it couldn't have hurt. I had gotten quite sick while travelling and was in need of rebuilding my immune system. I had relied on Western medicine all of my life (especially anti-biotics), and the more I read the more I realized I wouldn't regain my health that way. In fact from what I read, all of the antibiotics that I had been taking had damaged my immune system. So I tried different modalities of "alternative" treatments ranging from supplements, to acupuncture, to homeopathy - even juice fasting. Even though I didn't use these treatments with my vision in mind, I do believe that they probably positively impacted my entire system, and my vision simply fell under that umbrella. Two years ago I had a series of chiropractic treatments. Although it is hard to say for sure because I didn't have my eyes tested immediately before and after the treatments, I do feel as though my vision became a little sharper after these treatments.

I had my eyes tested in May of 1999, a few months after I stopped wearing my glasses. My vision was still quite out of focus at that time. But I didn't downgrade and ask for a weaker perscription - I just went cold turkey! For the first time in years my eyes were able to relax.

I can't say for certain how long it took for my eyes to improve but I know they started improving immediately. For the last several years I have been driving without glasses (even at night), watching tv (even reading sub-titles without them) and recognizing friends at a distance walking on the street.

I recently went for my annual physical and my GP said that everyone should see an eye doctor every few years, so for the first time in five years I had my eyes checked. He told me what I already knew -

Hi, I have been looking for a possible way to help my vision be restored to where it used to be. I am presbyopic and this is also seemingingly causing me to have blurry vision at dusk now. so....my vision used to be really good and I'd like to "see" that again! I do a lot of reading and grading(as a teacher). I'm looking forward to learning more.

jennifer campbell from toronto, canada
May 03, 2004 at 18:05 (GMT)

this is the ending to my story (which was cut off below as my text was too long)...

I recently went for my annual physical and my GP said that everyone should see an eye doctor every few years, so for the first time in five years I had my eyes checked. He told me what I already knew - that I could now drive legally without glasses and that my right eye is essentially 20/20. My left eye also improved significantly but it is not perfect. I am sure if I had followed the exercises that the teacher had recommended it likely would be. I've had a lot of stress in my life in the last several years and yet my vision improved in spite of this. My vision went from -2.75 to -1 (left) and -1.25 to -0.25 (right eye). I know that some people have much worse vision than I had, but my experience shows that vision deterioration is not an irreversable process nor a function of aging. (I stopped wearing my glasses when I was 32 or 33 and I am now 37). Ultimately I feel that most important thing that I did was to stop wearing my glasses. I believe that if I had continued to do so even while doing the other treatments my vision would not have improved dramatically.

I would highly recommend this inexpensive and non-invasive process.

I am aware of the Bates method of correcting one's vision thru natural exercises but, from some discouragement of hearing my optometrist and others say that it doesn't work cause poor vision is genetic and will only get worse with age did nothing but make me give up hope and continue wearing contacts and glasses. Let me tell you, I hate wearing them both. They are such a nuisance to deal with sometimes. I'm not giving up! I will continue to learn how to correct my vision thru the Bates method. Thank you so much for putting time into this site.

I had been doing eye sight improvement techniques for about a year when i came across this site. I was so frustrated because i believed i was making little or no improvement, and there were times when i thought the techniques were actually worsening my vision.
And then i came across this site. What caught my eyeimmediately (excuse the pun) was the "signs of progress" section. My heart lifted when i saw that even short flashes of perfect vision were signs of improvement, because i was having them regularly - at least a once a day. Later I found something here that seemed to improve my vision immediately. It was this simple bit of information:

Dont TRY to see.

WIthin minutes i noticed a difference. And now i want to thank the author of this website for being responsible for a moment of inspiration at a point when i was about to give up hope completely. Thanks also to Bates, who is yet to get the recognition he deserves.

I do not consider myself someone who moans about illness and stuff, but even for me, one year out of no where, came a headache like no other, I have now suffered with a continual headache for 8 years now ( maybe more like pressure on the temple ) and been to the Dr's countless times for differing tests, I visited the Opticians every year and basically they found nothing wrong...my sight was getting slightly worse with each visit and again a new pair of glasses was paid for ( i didn't want to make my sight worse now did i ! ), all this did damage to my normal positive outlook on things.

The most annoying thing is though, in that 8 years, I have moved in with my partner, got married and had two great children and played some wicked rounds of golf !...but all these moments have been overshadowed by the fact i always had a damn headache.

And now with access to the internet, I surfed for help or something that might help, out there maybe probably millions like me...surely someone somewhere had the same problem and may have found a way of relieving the symptoms ??

After typing in "eye exercises" into a search engine, I then i stumbled onto this guy called W H Bates. From then on i visited quite a few sites reading up a lot about W H Bates and his findings, which I must say is fascinating..... I find it hard to believe that this information has to be spread the way it is.....word of mouth and the internet, why is this information ( considering that method has been around for decades)...not readily available, even if it is not main stream medicine or practice, I want the option, and for my Dr to say "well there may be something that can help you but it is not a typical medical procedure"...and let me decide for myself if its something i want to do.

Anyway...I have ordered the "Better site without glasses" book and am waiting for delivery. With modern science and myself being told " bad eyesight is a genetic trait" If the book does what is say's, and reading the reviews and the notes in the guest book ...i will be the happiest person alive...and will help those who may have symptoms like me and have no where to turn.

So for now, goodbye, and upon the arrival of my book, i will again come back to this site and leave feedback which ever way !!

Thank You For This Site. It's The Best I have Seen, and I have been surfing the net for a while.I thank God and I thank you from my heart for this site. It has helped me have faith in learning to see again. So many times I have cried out to God to heal my eyes. I also know that I let my vision get stolen from me by bad habits.

I am a designer and artist and when I sketch wearing glasses objects, people, textures and colours, things all look manufactured, fake and too objective. There is a sadness and grieving when I wear glasses to sketch. I want to draw the beauty of what I sketch and feel what I draw. Nothing can compare with the gift of natural vision, shape, vibrant colour, and clarity.

I have to follow the eye exercises through my whole life time and when I stops these exercises, I will be unable to see clearly, or if I discontinue these exercise, I need the glasses or something else?

Hi all,
I´m 27 years old. Feb last year I had laser (lasik) done on my eyes but it´s coming back...I´ve been noticing it in the last few months. I used to have myopia 6 or so and something like 0.25 or so astigmatism in each eye. I´m not sure what i have now as I´ve made an appontment with the doc who operated me for next week but I reckon it must be about 1 or so...Thank God by no means as much as I had but I want to get rid of all myopia.
When I was in my teens I had about 4/5 of myopia and one day my mother found H. Benjamin´s "Better Eyesight without Glasses" bases on the Bates method at a jumble sale. I read the book but upon realising that I´d have to go without glasses I never tried it as I thought I had alreay too much for it to work on me and for me to go without glasses with such a strength of myopia didn´t appeal to me. I realise this was foolish of me..I could have started it during my school holidays when it wouldn´t have been so inconvenient.... BUT NOW OLDER AND WISER AND POST-SURGERY I´M MORE DETERMINED
MY QUESTION IS: Having had surgery done is there any precaution I should take with exercising the muscles in my eyes...anything I should do a little diff....?
Forgive me if it´s a silly question ...it´s just that I don´t remember what I read in the Benjamin book years ago and have just started to look up info on the internet yesterday and have yet to arrange for my family to send me the book...
ALSO: Also during this time of little determination during my teens I bought "pinhole glasses" at a health store which I ended up not using...these are glasses with black non-transparent lenses but with lots of tiny holes...you wear them each night for 10 min last thing before bed while watching television and they´re supposed to get the muscles of your eyes focusing properly and then they stay that way during sleep...In the last few days I´ve been doing this but I don´t know if they´re doing more harm than good...ARE THEY ANTI-BATES METHOD? Again it´s cos I haven´t yet read enough to know...Yes, I can see the T.V. better with them but ís this straining to see? The last few days my nearsightedness is annoying me more but I don´t know if it´s cos of these glasses I´m straining or inconsiously straining due to being anxious and more conscious of my sight before I see the doc....
Sorry for going on for so long...always describe too much...Thanks....ANY ADVICE GREATLY APPRECIATED....

After 25 years of wearing glasses, I read the book and started applying the basic principals and immediately saw results within a week. After only 1 month, I threw my glasses away. I've told everyone I know and now everybody wants to try it! I'm so glad you have this web site! Now I have a place to point everyone. Thank you!!

I HAVE TWO ADOPTED SONS AND ONE SUFFERS FROM STARGARDT'S DISEASE BUT STILL HAS GOOD PERIPHERAL VISION THANK GOD BUT I THINK THE BATES METHOD MAY HELP TO SLOW DOWN THE DEGENERATIVE PROCESS.

I MYSELF HAVE FAILING VISION, I'M NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER!

I DESPERATELY WANTED TO GET HOLD OF THIS BOOK, BUT WORKING FREE MEANS I COULDN'T PAY FOR IT, WE LIVE ON A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY, SO I REALLY HAVE NO WORDS TO THANK YOU ALL AT "iblindness.org" . MAY GOD BLESS AND PROTECT ALL OF YOU.

HI,
I've just been on your website and am very impressed by the amount of documents you are proposing
I've been using my own blend of exercises based on Dr Bates' ideas for the past two and a half years and have noticed quite an improvement
I feel exhilarated - also to know that other people go through the same 'adventure'
thanks a lot for your site

I took my glasses off about 2 years ago. It started with the See Clearly Method, but then I moved on to other books and ideas and found the See Clearly Method to be somewhat limited. I have see much more improvement in my eyesight when I focus more on the spiritual and meditative side of eye exercises. I have been using the E.Y.E workout system that was designed by Jacob Liberman, O.D.,P.D., DSc. (Hon.). It uses blinking red and white lights and help train the eyes to work together. I was very upset with some statements made by an optomerist on the show 20/20. They claim that working long hours in front of the computer will not cause any damage to the eye. If you are born with 20/20 vision you will never need glasses. Having glasses does not cause the eyes to get worse. You can read by candlelight and flashlight with no worries. So much of that seems to totally ignore what is actually going on in the world. They would only mention a couple exercises from the See Clearly Method to represent all of natural eye healing without looking into more indepth. Do not believe them. They are too quick to slap glasses on anyone at anytime.

I have not increased the power of my glasses for the last 8yrs simply because whenever i get a new pair of glasses i ask for the same prescription and decline to get my eyes tested.(i usually just say i'm just making a spare and i can see fine with my current specs) Previously, whenever i got my eyes tested my precription would increase and keep increasing until i decided enough. I still get my eyes tested occasionally and on 2 occassions my prescription actually went down! However i've yet to meet anyone who actually managed to completely cure their eyesight so i'm still wondering about the validity of doing eye exercises as a COMPLETE cure. So if there are more ppl out there who have managed to do so, please share your experience.

This is definitely the best website about the Bates method.
I just started practicing the method myself. I hope I will benefit from it too.

I read the book a little over 3 years ago and believed every word i read. I took off my glasses and have not put them back on since! I had worn glasses for the best part of 10 years from the age of 18 to 28. Part of me wishes that i hadn't ever worn them but at least i'm on the right track now. Life is beautiful. Changes happen in ways you wouldn't expect, physical, emotional, psychological etc. It can get confusing sometimes and i feel like i'm in a bubble that i can't get out off but then other times it's like the greatest trip you'll ever have. When i remind myself of the simplicity and purity of the whole idea i can only smile.

PartII...I should like to add that i am grateful to the creators of this website. Also, i browsed the 'method of the week' article (Long Swing - Dec 5, 2004 introduced by: David Kiesling) which i found very helpful and it reminded me of what Bates was on about i.e. as your head/body/eyes moves one way you 'see' everything (the world) moving the other way. And, the object you were looking at before you started to move disapears out of the side of your eye (into your memory) until you arrive at the other side etc. I know that this probably doesn't make any sense to anybody but it's really very simple and produces a bizzare feeling around my eyes which is usually quite overwhelming and gives me super vision... You've heard of the spiderman story?..(This is a joker?)
Okay, so now nobody believes me...i understand, it's hard to believe but sometimes you feel like you have to tap into some kind of power that you have which hasn't been used since you were young. It's a step out of your 'old' self...relax every day, your life will flash before you and you will see the world again.(give me money, give me money)

Thank you for this outstanding and vital service. At age 81 my eyesight is of great concern to me. I never have had good eyesight, but with glaucoma, cataracts, floaters and possibly the beginning stages of macular degeneration, I am looking for viable help to keep and improve my eyesight.
God bless you,

I just recently ordered a computer software program and pinhole glasses to help work on my eyes. Since wearing the glasses, I have had massive improvements in my vision. Astigmatism has improved more than 80 percent. I would say I felt comfortable seeing out about 20 to 30 feet and that has grown to five to six blocks. When I first put on the glasses and then take them off, I felt as if I was taking off a regular pair of glasses and would see things slightly blurred until I got my adjusted. That has changed and more and more I start to retain more of focused images that I see through the pinholes after I remove them. Distance images are looking more like sharp photos with distinctive edges and not like a painting where everything is soft and bleeds together. Don't believe the lies of medical corporations and laser surgeons, you can improve your eyesight.

This is my first time visiting this website and I see there are numerous positive reports and messages from those using natural methods to cure eye conditions. I am desperate to know if anyone has been successfull in treating floaters, which are mentioned in Bates book. I have several in both eyes, which have been given a clean bill of health by my optician. Has anybody had any success with this condition or can you offer any advice that can help me please.
Thanks Fred

I have been researching about ways to help your eyesight improve. When I found out about the Bates Method (with you help, of course), I am thrilled. Out of all the personal wishes I have, it is just to have 20/20 eyesight, or better. It's so exciting to know you can have eyesight even better than 20/20! Please provide free tips? But anyways, this is good. I love it. Keep it up.

I would just like to ask what will be your guarantee the bate's method or eye exercises will help improve vision? Please tell me at my email!

my email: twinxlekute392@sbcglobal.net. ...if anyone knows, please tell!

Thank you so much, Dave, for this beautiful website, a total treasure. I've been teaching Bates method, or Natural Vision Improvement, for 12 years now. Yes, it works. It may take more personal involvement than going into glasses would, but what a rich world it opens up, and so much empowerment. Natural seeing is an adventure, and I am truly grateful to experience it and to share it. My previous condition was "old age vision", just one of many names for straining to see.

Blessings and well-wishing!
Azalea

I'm very concerned as to what is the proper method of iniating this program. Though you're website certainly does lay down the foundation for a regiment, it would be strongly appreciated if you could devise a much more scheduled or structured eye relaxation program. The process is dependent on the individual, I know, but a quick, "So you want to get started? Here's an introductory program to try" page would be fantastic.

Great site otherwise. Keep up the updates, for this seems a necessity to our society.

I am nearsighted & have worn glasses since the 10th grade.
After getting stronger lenses every time I went to the eye doctor, I began to search for a better way. I suffer from allergies and dry eyes as well as stress and strain. 20 years ago I studied the Bates method and believed in it. I studied it, believed in it and did the exercises. For a while I went without glasses at all. Because of stress, strain and lack of time I fell into the trap of impatience and went back to glasses. I don't want to get a stronger prescription again. I want this method to work. I have considered eye surgery, but because of my dry eyes I am told that they may even be drier after the surgery. I have astigmatism so that makes it even more difficult. I have come to the place where I can close my eyes, breathe and say, "The little muscles around my eyes are relaxed" and they immediately begin relaxing. Palming, Sunning, Swinging, Swaying and reading fine print is the way to go I know..It just seems harder now more than ever to let go of tension. I know that discipline and staying with the exercises is the key...and patience. Any suggestions would be appreciated...THANKS! Dale Lynch, Atlanta, GA
