How Does Your Seeing FEEL?

Most people evaluate the health of their eyes and visual system by how well they perform, that is, how clearly they can see. If you’re starting to get sore eyes or a headache from reading or looking at an electronic screen for too long, you may ignore this until your sight starts to blur. Only then do you decide to take a break.

My energy healing teacher Deborah King tells us a disturbance in the human energy field precedes many (if not most!) physical problems. We’re starting to realize uncontrolled anger can lead to heart problems, and we have a sense that it would be much better to learn to manage the anger before needing medical attention.

Your emotions and awareness are your intuitive guidance system, telling you when you need to change direction. But this only works if you pay attention to the guidance! If you dismiss it, figuratively putting something over the warning light to block it, pain symptoms may start to show up. Your guidance system is trying harder to get your attention, and since you’re ignoring your feelings, it’s resorting to pain hoping to finally get through.

Do your eyes feel moist and happy and relaxed right now, or more like the pictures above? How often do you not give your visual system a true rest? If your eyes are sore or tired, it’s time to do something differently. That could be to change what you’re looking at, or go for a walk, or get a drink of water, or do some palming, or take a nap. Many hard-working people stay at the computer until their eyes are screaming at them and the screen gets blurry. Then they wonder if they need glasses, so they can push themselves even harder!

For the most part, your eyes and the seeing part of your brain know what to do when you treat them right, just like the rest of your body does. A child who is beaten or ignored will begin to have behavior problems eventually. Is it any wonder this can happen to our sensitive eyes too? Tune into your eyes and your seeing right now. Look around a bit. Does seeing feel like a pleasure, a true gift, or is there some pain?

If your eyes were your friends and you could have a conversation together, what would they say they need? It might be as simple as friendlier faces to look at, or time outdoors gazing at scenery. I mowed my front lawn for the first time this season this morning, and I could tell my vision loved it, watching the ragged contours turn into a smooth texture, section by section. I came back to my computer feeling renewed! And every time I look out the window next to me and see the neater lawn, I smile.

You know what you need to do to be healthy: good nutritious food, clean water, moderate regular exercise, work which satisfies you and feels important, time with people who care about you. All these benefit your vision too. If you’re happy, your eyes are happy. The most important thing you can do for your vision is to pay attention to how your eyes feel and the messages they’re sending you. Be good to your eyes, and they’ll perform like champions for you.

I wore strong glasses, then contact lenses, from age 5 into my 40s. While making many mistakes, eventually l learned how to improve the way I use my eyes and to see in a more relaxed, healthy manner. It is my pleasure to coach others to do the same. Visit me at https://NancyLNeff.com.

I feel like myopia could be part of a wider issue of inhibition of awareness, not only of visual data but of emotions and inconvenient things we would rather not sense.
