Also, when I was 17 i had a root canal on my front left tooth. After, my eye above it always felt like it had something in it. I think the nerve made it feel sore and still does to this day sometimes. I had floaters as a kid but not many. Now, after taking care of my grandson for 3 years I have a lot of them. They all came that 1 day when he threw an object in the back of my head on a hot July day.

If i lay down on my back for a while and rest, they are not that many, until I get up and walk around. Also, I had these dark sunglasses that I was wearing since December (gift). I have a feeling in the back of my mind this is causing more floaters...idk why...just keeps coming in my head to not wear them.

I have been taking care of my 2 year old grandson in the day. One day he threw something and it hit me behind my head really hard. About a week later a whole bunch of floaters appeared in my eyes. Some days I see more floaters and some days less. I do take a warm washcloth sometimes and lay down with in on my eyes. I did notice that if I do that they floaters are not there, but do come back as I move around and do work. I am nearsighted, too. I am 20/200 in one eye and 25/200 in the other.

I do think that rest can be a big help. The "mental strain" and just resting. When I was a kid I would hear the older folks say they were going to lay down to "rest" their eyes.

I was prescribed Isosorbide Mononitrate due to angina pain. The doctor warned me that this medication can cause headaches, which it did. But my headaches were right at the back of the eyeballs. Right away I began seeing flashes of light in my right eye but did not think of any connection to the medicine. Eventually floaters started happening in the right eye, this is when I started to check into what's going on. Retinal detachment comes up as very likely. Checking into the possible side effects of isosorbide, retinal detachment has been reported but very rare. Still I am convinced to pursue the matter as if the medication caused the problem since the headaches were noticeably at the back of the eyes. I always prefer natural options to treating any body problems when possible. I have quit taking the prescription and found a natural substitute, Hops Strobile, which attacks the angina pain in the same way only it lasts just twelve hours per dose than the twenty four the medication does. If it does not go away just from stopping the cause, I suppose I will have to go the surgery option, but I would rather not. However, I am having trouble finding answers to common questions like, should I wear an eye patch, to do eye exercises or not, what vitamin and minerals should I take and is there any I should avoid?

I am trying my best to improve my health. I am not sure if I have a detached retina or not, but I do have floaters. I am open to the idea of surgery, but I wouldn't like to do it because it means a lot of time off of work, which I can't easily do at this juncture. I am trying eye exercises, I am drinking chrysanthemum and goji berry tea, I eat blue berries everyday and eat pumpkin seeds. My vision is stronger, but I still have those annoying floaters. I guess there is no way around surgery for it?

I have symptoms of weakening retna. Yes the ability to have deep sleep and have a relaxed life without eye strain is really important. I have taken up Qui Gong which is an energy practice 4000 years old. It is for whole body healing. It has helped with so much! I am not rushing in to get surgery but if it does happen that the "curtain starts to fall" that may be what I will do. In the mean time I look at my eyes like any other part of my body. If I don't have a relaxed life, and put my body into stress(including my thoughts) I am not doing good for my eyes. That means not listening to the news, being in good company . and having fun! I limit my time on the computer as well although use it to stay connected through email.
Good luck to all

HI Jah,
Personally I don't know the answer to most of your questions. That's medical procedure stuff that I don't know anything about. I know more about basic issues like myopia and astigmatism. Pretty much everything I've gathered on retinal detachment is in the article above. Maybe someone else will be able to chime in with ideas.
I'm not familiar with what he advises for face down position, or why or for how long he recommends it, so I can't suggest much there except maybe queue up some movies on a tablet or smartphone?

Hello all

Edit and repost with questions and useful information. Please pardon spelling, grammar, errors, or missinformation.

I had the gas bubble and then heavy oil with third surgery scheduled with buckle and light oil.

Doc blames me for not maintaining position long enough. I think its worth pursuing next step but also wonder if its a waste of time and more pain and irritation. Any and all input welcome.

Face down is the worst position, practically impossible with gas bubble and if she does the buckle with light oil. Holding a tissue under the chin and to keep eyes on feet i found in my research along with one home made system in a useful blog.

It may be just the first three days or two weeks that are most important and i suspect the retina is easily displaced. I did read one expert say the position times are getting negiable.

All surgeries for this seem archaic but better than blind in only one eye god help me.

I seriously suspeceted over exposure to the sun and untreated dry eyes which seems to come up over and over in the forums as well as the importance of keeping hydrated for prevention in other eye.

My questions are:
1-Would it be better to stick with one treatment for as long as possible. This is not an exact science. Doc says go about normally but i suspect lying on my back with the heavy oil couldnt hurt. Could it reattach the the retina which is not fully attached? It is hard to see or tell through heavy oil. At least more light is getting to the retina though she took out the lens. The gas used is caustic to the lens. Plus she needed to 'access' the eye. I suspect sticking with the gas bubble for as long as pissible might have helped.

No one told us that glasses could lead to blindness!!!! I started to reduce my glasses strength and to my surprise after time the eyes adjusted! Big mistake was when my glasses broke i put on old stronger ones which i also suspect did not help matters and contributed to tear.

Im being treated in thailand and could go back to new york using medicare. 2-Can i fly with heavy oil? 2.5-Is there a best surgeon who takes medicare? 2.75-Who are the best most expereiened advanced able to correct a problem patient?

3-Are there more advanced options in the west? I cant seem to find much on this or alternatives except accupuncture, questionable supplements and even urine! I have not looked into ancient chinese medicine. Myopia is a modern problem. Refer to Bates.

4-Surgery only addresses the symptom not the cause? One doc said its possible to improve vision with a new lens but again not addressing the cause and most important is the retinal detachment.

5-If i do the buckle how can i survive and succeed at face down again? I might get a tv projector.

6: At what point is it too late to treat?

I went to rutin eye hospital in bangkok for second and third opinion. I can suggest the two most experienced docs but i am not covered there.

Sorry if this is a bit disjointed. As you all know what a life changing shock this is.

Thanks again.

Angie, honestly it sounds like senility, and if so the retinal detachment may be the least of her problems. To answer your question, an exam wouldn't cause any harm to her retina. Doctors are very careful in how they examine patients.

I don't know how to force her to go and since her diagnose, she claims to have hallucinations related to "serpents." Perhaps the floaters all causing this hallucination, but I find it odd that she started seeing these things since the day she went in for her eye exam. Could an exam harm your retina? In the meantime, as I find a way to convince my mother to have the surgery, I'm desperately looking for alternative methods in the healing of the retina.
Well holy shit. I just became aware that I have had a retinal detachment in each eye this year. This is after working two jobs for years and feeling exhausted beyond belief. No wonder. Thank goodness I had no vision loss, just floaters and flashes driving me nuts. Ignorance was bliss because I didn't know I was supposed to rush to the nearest ophthalmologist and let them scare me into surgery.

oh my god, are you saying, a retina problem is a mind problem? i dunno, im a very open mind person, in fact i loved everything i read here... but sounds so amazing. i had Lasik 8 years ago, and since some months ago i started developing more floaters (more than before). i had the same problem twice YEARS ago. but, since i have this new desk job, staring all day at the PC Screen, this problem returned worse than before. im very stressfull thinkin this might be a retinal tear, so i guess, i first check that with the doc and then start to relax (and eat better) plus palm and swing more (i never do it :/ )
