Hi Darrell, and thanks for your concern about my foot, which is about 95% better now. I am so grateful my body knows how to heal! That particular article in the Better Eyesight Magazine about “No use tryin’ ” struck me strongly, and I've wondered more than a few times about that wise schoolboy, what he did with his life as a man. I would have liked to have met him, and thanked him! And thank you too, for your words.

Andrei, yes indeed. The habits of rushing and pushing are strong in many of us, and it takes dedicated awareness and noticing ourselves to be different than this. And it's SO worth it! :)

Hello Nancy, First of all sorry to hear about your foot. Get well soon! "No pain, no gain" is a saying I'm sure we have all heard...however the Bates Method is its antithesis and its refutation and rightly so. "Less is more" is more like it but for so many out there " natural vision improvement" suggests something like giving the eyes a good workout, strengthening the eye muscles, maybe we had these ideas ourselves before becoming enlightened, Bates in the September 1921 magazine said that his 1920 book Perfect Sight Without Glasses could be summarized in three words: "No use tryin' " . As you say Nancy, vision improvement is subtle and gentle and that is its beauty.. The less we do the more we get done. Wow!

We know what clear vision and a calm mind feel like, and we also know to achieve that state of easiness and relaxation. But there's an old part of us that keeps reasserting itself, especially under certain conditions or in certain social situations. Keeping that 'bad' part of us in check takes regular Bates practice, and like you mentioned, a constant reminder to slow down and take it easy. Less is more. Easy does it - I like this!

Thank you, Maria. Most projects can be approached calmly, and still get accomplished. And this feels so much better than rushing and pushing! :)

Thanks for reading, Roman, and for understanding the point I was trying to make. I should re-read this on a regular basis, as I need the reminder myself :)

Thanks for this, Nancy! Yes, definitely - "gently, gently (and, if possible, even more gently)" has been kind of a mantra for myself lately as well. This, of course, goes completely against the mainstream of "doing everything at once, the faster the better". But, when you really slow down, new things come into view that, previously, simply swooshed by without a chance of making themselves known.
Thanks for this very timely post!
