In a recent session with a skilled healer, we focused on strengthening our intuition and imagination. He asked us to pick a current situation where we wanted guidance. I’ve been improving my vision for almost 25 years at this point, learning a lot and seeing results, though my sight is not perfect at all times. I chose the question “How can I further improve my vision?” as my intention for this practice.
The healer wanted to direct our energy to keep it from wandering all over the place, then leave it open-ended to explore whatever came in. He told us to pick 2 characters or situations, an A and a B, maybe us and the problem, or us and the other person. When we imagined or intuited for a few minutes, we were to notice what came up as the A, as the B, and as the dynamic between these. We did this 3 times, and then it was up to us to apply this new information to our original situation.

My first exploration showed me as a cartoon slim cowboy in a white hat, like the guy in Toy Story, facing an angry stubborn bulldog. The cowboy (me) was overly confident that he could “save the day” and deal with this creature who only wanted to be left alone. I thought I’d probably been too optimistic in the beginning that I could solve my strong myopia just like solving a math equation, or debugging a programming problem.
My second exercise had me studying behind a big desk full of papers and books, intent on learning all I could, while a loud pesky mosquito buzzed around me. I was doing my best to ignore it, absorbed in the books and learning. Yes, I spent way too much time reading about vision improvement and what others had done, without doing much myself except even more “book learning”. I was ignoring the real practice of learning to understand my own eyes and how they felt and responded, just like I was ignoring the mosquito.

The third and final practice we did, even though I will be doing this again on my own, showed a big sturdy tree, with an outstretched branch from which hung a swing holding a child. I thought about play, movement, not trying, knowing you’re supported and safe, all essential parts of vision improvement. Seeing myself as a deeply rooted tree, naturally nourished by the sun and rain and earth so that I can easily support others, feels like a bit of a stretch, and I want to keep growing into it.
As one of my coaches pointed out, these images came from my imagination. No one gave them to me. I invite you to do some version of this yourself, and see what your creative mind comes up with, to help move you forward with a vision challenge, or with something else. As with a dream, there can be many interpretations, and the dreamer is usually the expert.

I wore strong glasses, then contact lenses, from age 5 into my 40s. While making many mistakes, eventually l learned how to improve the way I use my eyes and to see in a more relaxed, healthy manner. It is my pleasure to coach others to do the same. Visit me at https://NancyLNeff.com.
Fascinating, Nancy! The images that came out of your unconscious mind are full of meaning and symbolism. Perhaps the one closest to what you’re aiming at is the tree with the child, he’s just relaxing and swinging without effort and enjoying himself. Such is the way to see better and better. Your healer sounds like a very gifted individual! Here’s wishing you health and joy and thanks for another great post!
Hi Darrell, and thanks for your thoughts. Yes, the big insight for me here about the process is that those helpful images were “in there” already, but I needed that healer’s guidance to tease them out. Bringing up the mental image of the boy on the swing, surrounded by Nature, free and happy, can help me get to that relaxed state now. And as you know, when we’re relaxed and centered, we see more easily. 🙂
