A Breakthrough Method
The procedure is based on a plain âflexibleâ pair of contact lenses (without any prescription) which you wear for only two minutes. Regardless of your degree of myopia, you will experience a significant visual improvement after the first application. After that, you would wear the lenses regularly as a preventative means.
For the first three weeks, you will wear them for two minutes for three times a week. Then you will eventually wear them for two minutes for twice a week for another three weeks, and then after that, your wearing schedule is about once every week for another three weeks, et cetera. Your wearing schedule continues to decrease as your muscles stabilizes. The lenses are for therapeutic purposes onlyânot a visual aid.
The myopic structure of your eyeâwhich usually involves the lens, eyeball, cornea, and the musclesâcan reverse back to their premyopic shape without surgery. In order for that to happen, certain muscles must relax, other muscles must be stretched, and others have to be tightened. The other condition is that all this activity has to take place at the same time. The reversal process has to occur simultaneously because that is how you became myopic: certain muscles were not relaxed, others became too tight, and others lost their tensile strength. The resulting deterioration of the lens, eyeball, and cornea all took place at the same time. But how does each group of muscles develop simultaneously before it is possible to naturally reverse each part of the myopic eye? This is where John Yeeâs invention comes in.
Compared to Other Methods
John Yee calls this procedure orthoculogy (Latin for âcorrecting the whole eyeâ) or ortho C, for short. Although the reversal process sounds mechanical, the ortho C lenses will improve your vision naturally. It is natural in the sense that there is no slicing or dicing (by applying a scalpel or laser, as in the case of laser surgery).
The advantage of ortho C over laser surgery is that there is the absence of any side affectsâlike halo effect, decrease in night vision, the eye tearing up, scarring, undercorrection, overcorrection, progressive visual acuity deterioration, or the risk of rupture. And Ortho C is a fraction of the cost of laser surgery.
There are no implants involved, such as implanting a âringâ onto your cornea (Cornea Ring Implant), or implanting a lens between your natural lens and the iris (Interocular Lens Implant), or even implanting another cornea onto your existing cornea.
Do not confuse ortho C with an existing method called orthokeratology (which is Latin for correcting the cornea), or âortho Kâ, as it is sometimes called in optical parlance. It attempts to correct your refractive error by âflatteningâ out the cornea with a very âflatâ contact lens without attending to the myopic shape of the lens of your eye or the eyeball.
The failure rate of ortho K would be 100% if a pair of âretainerâ contact lenses are not worn every night while you sleep to maintain the collapsed curvature of the cornea. Ortho C does not rely on a âretainerâ lens to continue collapsing the cornea. Ortho K is not recommended for anyone with very severe myopia, but ortho C can reverse very severe as well as mild, moderate, and midrange myopia. It has been used to treat myopia as high as -18.75 diopters.
The advantage of correcting nearsightedness by altering the curvature of the lens and eyeball is that the improvement in vision is permanent. With ortho K, you have to sleep with the lenses every night. If you miss wearing the lens just for one night, the curvature of the cornea would tend to creep back to its original myopic shape and all the improvement in vision would be lost. The influence from an ortho C lens has a lasting effect because it stimulates the muscles that control the lens and eyeball. There are no muscles that control the cornea.
Because you would wear the lenses for a short duration, it is even less riskier than wearing your regular contact lenses. The risk of eye infection and mishandling is reduced.
All the other methods on the market involve changing the curvature of the cornea to compensate for the myopic shape of the lens, eyeball, and cornea. But with ortho C, the curvature of the cornea will not be altered. This can be verified by taking another K reading (or keratometer reading) after your vision improves.
Ortho C cannot influence the lens and eyeball directly. You are not directly tampering with the lens and eyeball. You have to influence them indirectly by stimulating the ciliary muscle that controls the shape of the lens and the oblique and rectus muscles that control the shape of the eyeball. By attending to these muscles, the change in curvature of the lens and eyeball is more permanent because less burden is placed on a specific part of the eye and because ortho C attends to the root cause of nearsightedness. Thus there is less of an âeffort to seeâ.
I don't get it. Their description doesn't say what it does, just that it's a flexible contact lens. It says some muscles in or around the eye must be stretched, others relaxed, others tightened. What's up with that? Are they claiming that degree of control over something that has so much disagreement surrounding even how these muscles affect the eye? Anyway, their description is lacking any real info, so it's hard to say anything.
But personally I wouldn't advise anyone to try it. It just sounds like another way to try to fix the problem without addressing the strain and misuse of the eyes that is continually causing the problem. People are always going to be looking for shortcuts, but isn't that what got you into this mess to begin with?
Speaking of muscles and stuff though, just the other day I saw a site that described myopia as being caused by tension in the eyelid muscle, instead of the oblique muscles that's been the popular theory. I had never thought of it before, but it does kind of make sense and would help explain an additional thing or two. My point is that there has been so ridiculously little research into those muscles' effects on focus that I have to roll my eyes when anyone claims that such-and-such will relax what ever muscles around the eyes to fix your vision. It just makes them sound credible and in possession of knowledge that they don't actually have.

it's rather the lack of info about it on the web that makes it look weird... googling "orthoculogy" brings up only a few couple of websites/pages.
So far this is only guy that seemed to has used these lenses.

Seems his book is being sold at several website bookstores, including Amazon. com.. He has one endorsement
from Roberto Kaplan who I personally think is very well respected.

It would be great to get a hold of the book... I think it may explain more and hopefully be more detailed in actually
how these lenses can correct eyesight so quickly.. I'm gonna see if I can get this at one of the libraries here.. In fact
I can even ask them to buy it, if they don't have it !

I guess all these things make him somewhat more reputable, but it's interesting why if for 10 years of practicing this,
we have never heard of it. But I guess considering how long Bates was hidden, it may not be too strange ? For sure,

As a rule of thumb, I can reduce your myopia by half. It depends on where the problem lies. If the deviation is mainly in the lens of the eye, I can reduce your myopia more, if it is shared between the lens and eyeball, I can reduce it by around half, if it is mainly due to the eyeball, then the improvement becomes more gradual.
Also, not anyone can buy the lenses automatically. Everyone's cornea is different. Have you worn contact lenses before? You would need a k reading (or keratometer reading).

Thanks John for relaying this info to me ! Is your prescription med-high, and that is why it can only be reduced by half? I have relatively med prescription but very high astig in one eye. I too heard from Dr. Yee, yesterday. He didn't comment on how much my prescription can be reduced, but he said he thinks my astig is not from my scar. This would make me very happy because that means it can be reduced. I too had a gut feeling that it may not be related, even though they told me it was.
In any case, even if someone's prescription can be reduced by half, that is still very good considering the short amount
of time it works. One can always continue on with Bates exercises.
As for contact lenses, yes, I have been wearing them for a long time. I have never heard of a K reading, though.. I do order regular prescription contacts on my own and have all the details. I am wonder if the K reading is something different and you need to go to your optometrist or it's somewhere in your file?
I've asked some more questions from Dr. Yee.. I haven't received a reply yet.. I know he is very busy

Forcing the eye to change shape by using contact lenses often results in cornea injury, infection, eye damage.
Vision improvment is not complete, permante and natural.
The Bates method relaxes all the eye muscles, outer and inner, enabeling the muscles to contract and release as neeeded to move the eye correct, produce accommodation, convergence, divergence...activate normal shifting, central fixation, enable the eye, cornea to return to normal shape and clear vision at all distances.
Stay away from people selling contact lenses and unnatural treatments.

the man has 10 years in the making of this new natural eye improvement mechanism.
I would be willing to give it a try however on his website he does not offer the contacts but mere his book.
where do you get the contacts i suppose.? And if he claims that you need to get an keratamology reading to discover cornea length, then
do you suppose you simply ask an optometrist to give you one.
You can not expect his revolution to be famous as he knows that, with a wealth > health society, he won't go very far.
but keep posting and sharing information, if this is really a breakthrough, and if this is natural, or involves natural techniques,
then i will be sure to try it.
