Re: Strabismus - clarknight - 09-09-2009

The eyes must shift on the bead and relax. Blink, breathe. No force to make the correct images appear.
If the eyes stare at the bead, if body, head, neck are immobile, tension occurs.
I find switching on other objects at close, middle, far distances to enable more eye, head, body movement and this prevents muscle tension in neck, eyes. Practice with both eyes, one eye at a time, then both. Then just incorporate shifting, correct use of eyes as easy relaxing habit all the time. Soon the eyes do it on their own.
The bead string is good to practice short times and then do other Bates activites that enable complete freedom of movement, more eye movement.
Here is Davids reply to me on how he cured his strabismus:
<!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.iblindness.org">www.iblindness.org</a><!-- w -->.
David cured his eyes, (visual system) of strabismus, astigmatism and blur.

Davids' cure;
From clark night on Fri Sept 26, 2008 10:12 am
To David, webmaster;

I read on your web site that you cured your condition of strabismus, astigmatism and blur.
Please list all the things you did that worked for you.
I am most interested in how you cured the strabismus.
I met a young person with a wandering eye problem and gave him info. on the Bates method.
His eye doctor wants to do surgery on the muscle and keeps giving him thick, very strong eyeglasses.
I see much strain, inflammation in his eyes.
He is very smart, open minded and told me (before I gave him a vision improvement card) that he has been searching for a natural cure and refuses to let the eye doctor do the surgery.
I know he can correct this condition.

I have cured astigmatism, blur and a very slight convergence problem in my eyes and other people, reduced cataracts in two ladies, intolerance to sunlight, but do not have experience treating major convergence, divergence (strabismus) impairment.
I can only advise methods on my web site and to read Better Eyesight Magazines, Stories from the clinic and Dr. Bates original book.
What do you think is the most effective method to get the eyes straight, moving together, looking at the same point?

Re: Davids' cure
by David on Mon Sept. 29, 2008 12:19 am.

It's really the same thing as blur, but different. With blur, it's a matter of realizing and stopping the effort you're habitually making to make your eyes focus.
With strabismus, he's probably habitually making an effort to team his eyes together, or to converge, or look both at the same thing, or keep his eyes straight, or how ever he thinks of it.
Other than that, for me it had to do with staring and one eye being blurrier, and then getting a bit more complicated by glasses with the two lenses of different strengths, so I'd end up using one eye at a time to avoid the instability.
The epiphany for me was lying down, palming and relaxing as completely as I could, opening my eyes and realizing that as I opened my eyes, before I had a chance to look at anything and adjust, my eyes were already straight until I did something to make them not.
If he could be convinced of that, that's the biggest obstacle.

Clark Night; I was thinking last night that, when the vision is blurry in a wandering eye, it might not see the perfect point of central fixation, the center of the visual field and this might impair convergence, divergence.
When the vision is clear in that eye, central fixation is perfect and the eye has a perfect central point to focus on with the other eye so it stays straight, normal, moving with the other eye from point to point.

More about strabismus - By David;

Some authorities say that the vision in a wandering eye (mine turned out laterally) is blocked out or creates a double image, but neither was ever true for me. The wandering eye provided no central vision, but it did provide a sort of peripheral vision, as evidenced by being able to sense more in the lateral direction than if I closed that eye.
But all the same things can be effective. As with anything, it's good to start each session with palming so as to start a little fresher.

Regards,
Dave

Re: Strabismus - otis - 09-09-2009

Dear Clark,

Here is a video of Strabismus.

Exotropia I believe.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSGYlmRBkiw&feature=fvw">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSGYlmRBkiw&feature=fvw</a><!-- m -->

Would you agree this girl got it under control?

Enjoy,

Re: Strabismus - clarknight - 09-10-2009

Wow! She looks relaxed when doing this.
Says she has not got it completely cured but this is interesting!
Wonder if she tried Bates method?
Bates has a few stories about kids doing this in his office.

Re: Strabismus - otis - 09-10-2009

Dear Clark,

I can do SOME of what this girl is doing.

I credit to "training" (to a certain extent like Bates), and routines that were called "exercise".

I have it "under control" -- which means that it is not perfect.

I have my own "ideas" about how a child "gets into it".

The other "medical" solution is to "cut the muscle" -- that I think is TERRIBLE. But I am like Bates on that issue.

In medicine there are NEVER perfect answers.

But it is always good to read a person's experience with this issue of "intermittant strabismus".

Best,

Re: Strabismus - clarknight - 09-11-2009

Otis,
I have found that I can most easily teach people how to fix their vision when I have fixed the same problem in my eyes.
I have corrected very slight convergence/divergence in my eyes but no experience with real strabismus.
I read in Bates mags, book that a person can cure strabismus by learning how to move the eyes in all directions, cause different types of strabismus, like that girl does in the video.
I am makeing a list of all the treatments Bates and other teachers have listed.
Can you teach me how to creat strabismus in my eyes, like you say you can do with yours, then I can cure it and be a better teacher?
I definitely have planned to do this but have been waiting until my book/website is finished so that if I cant cure myself immediately after causing it I will at least have the book work done. Am also a chicken! Afraid to do this, but if its sucessful will be great!!!
Is this safe to do?
I noticed Bates taught kids that already had a strabismus problem to do this but what about a person that does not have a strabismus problem??
If we could put all our ideas together, ideas that work, are tested sucessfully into a booklet, people will be very happy to have this. Yahoo Bates? forum has a book on Strabismus; 45 Lazy Eye Exercises. http://www.amblyopiakids.com
I presently have 4 people that are trying to cure this problem and do not have anything arranged into a kit specifically for strabismus for them.

Re: Strabismus - otis - 09-11-2009

Dear Clark,

I can describe the "exercises" that were used on me -- if that will help.

1. I was taught to look at my finger and move it close to my eyes. I think I did this about 20 times.

2. I used a "stereo-scope", which had two separate pictures -- that created a 3 dimensional image -- if you did this correctly.
See:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereoscopy">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereoscopy</a><!-- m -->

3. When I was about six or seven my parents noticed that I would let one eye "drift out" (i.e., exo-tropia).

4. As you can imagine, I 'resisted" some of this work -- as children will.

5. But when I realized my parents were SERIOUS about this issue, I worked harder at it.

6. I can still let the eye "drift out", and in fact I can "de-couple" each eye if I wish.

7. Instituting these "methods" with children is indeed very difficult and frustrating. That is my true appreciation of this issue of intermittant strabismus.

9. Finally I started playing tennis. That was a huge help.

I can not say "cure" but I can say "prevent".

I hope this helps in your quest.

best,

Otis

Dear Clark,

Subject: How to intentionally CAUSE myopia.

Clark> I am makeing a list of all the treatments Bates and other teachers have listed.
Can you teach me how to creat strabismus in my eyes, like you say you can do with yours, then I can cure it and be a better teacher?

Otis> This is a "low priority" for me.

Otis> But, on a SCIENTIFIC LEVEL, I can teach you how to cause nearsightedness in the perfectly normal eye -- if that is your interest.

Otis> During Dr. Bates life-time "how to cause myopia", was never ALLOWED to be a scientific subject.

Otis> I think it should be.

Best,

Otis

Re: Strabismus - otis - 09-13-2009

Dear Clark,

Subject: Bates training for "eye coordination.

This is some of the "strabismus control" work that was used on me.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyGQvtdPP6Q&feature=related">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyGQvtdP ... re=related</a><!-- m -->

There is no "perfect" method -- but it is good to understand by video how to use these methods.

Best,

Re: Strabismus - otis - 09-15-2009

For Clark,

It is obviously your intention to become an expert on the subjects related to Dr. Bates and his preventive work. I commend you for that desire to learn.
To do that, you need to understand some terminology. There are two important words:

Phoria -- totally normal.
Tropia -- a "problem".

Additional:
eso -- turns "in"
exo -- turns "out".

All eyes have "Phoria" to some degree. This is demonstrated by a "cover" test shown in this video:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyIA-dl49Lg&feature=related">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyIA-dl4 ... re=related</a><!-- m -->

If you OD tells you that you have "phoria" -- don't panic -- it is totally normal.

What I had (and brought under control) was intermittant exo-tropia. There are people who would call this Bates (although that name was not used), and others who will insist that it was "not Bates". I only tell you of my own personal results -- to help you in both your "learning process", and you goal to help others with prevention.
But that is the real goal of "Imagination Blindness" -- when you think about it.
Best,
Otis

Re: Strabismus - clarknight - 09-15-2009

This is something I have never seen before!
I want to thank all you guys on this forum.
I have sent these posts on strabismus to 3 people that are asking for help with this problem and they have E-mailed back saying it is most helpful.
Thank to Otis for the scientific info.
I have always believed that correcting impaired divergence, convergence, even when it is only very slight is a main way to also improve the clarity of vision.
