Eccentric fixation at night - Summon-Pretty-Peace - 03-13-2010

In my high school biology class we just learned that while cones, which perceive light and color, are located on the fovea, rods, which perceive things in the dark, are located outside of it. Bates's main argument for central fixation was that vision is clearest on the fovea, right? So would that make it okay to look indirectly at the object of interest in low light?
