Re: Peace in mind - Nini - 11-26-2011

Hi Hammer
I'm also worrying too much about things which I don't have under control.

In this context , the most helpful 'insight' for me was to recognize, that nothing really has so much value in itself, that it deserves an amount of attention (concern and worries), that this would prevent me from enjoying every other of moment of life.
I mean, that what you want and don't have achieved yet - not only material wealth - always seems to the source of happiness and satisfaction until you achieve it - and at once you will have new goals and happiness /satisfaction will move still further away (what I called 'putting coins on a savings account' in a previous post).

What makes things valuable is the context, especially the need, the 'previous lack' of the same thing.
For example: You will never find anything with a more delicious taste than anything you eat when you are really hungry. No matter how exquisite the food will be, without being hungry, you will never reach the taste of even something very simple eaten on a really empty stomach. And if you finish a whole box of your favorite chocolates, the first chocolate will always be the tastiest, each other one eaten later will taste a bit less.
The same thing, when you have done a lot of sports or really hard physical work, then lying down and taking a good rest, feel all your muscles relax and your blood flow through the tired muscles...you will never be able to get this same feeling if you lie down in your bed without being tired - even if you rest for hours or days.
Or when you had a really bad headache and the pain is slowly melting away; or else you are recovering from a serious illness - you don't need anything else to be perfectly happy.

Wise men of all times and cultures have understood this and have sought the perfect happiness and satisfaction by the path of creating need/lack, withdrawing from the world, giving up all possessions, fasting...
We modern people do just the opposite to achieve the same goal; we try to get a maximum of possessions and experiences with the 'ultimate kick', and still can't loose the feeling, that there is still something missing...we never reach the same satisfaction, happiness and peace of mind as one of theses people without any possession, experiencing only the simple loneliness of always same nature around them.

The art of seeing - hammer - 03-09-2012

Relaxation is some default source of energy cloud that can be disturbed.
When you think relaxation you shall think getting rid of the disturbance that actually causes the strain.
To think relax is in a way quite meaningless, it doesn't point out the disturbance that needs to be removed.
This is why trying too hard to relax in most cases fail.
Motion is a general principle of life that maintains balance and thus keeps disturbances away.
One guy said to me: "When I drive my motorbike all troubles disappear from my mind, it is like being free, it is such a free feeling".
Also how easy is it to keep up the balance when the motorbike is still, no balance at all.

I think about all the mental factors like fear and anger, and how they actually cause this disturbance to the relaxed mind. But it is a mind that stares at a problem from one viewpoint, when in fact there are many viewpoints that could be equally important as well. To consider all viewpoints of a problem makes it easier to remove the disturbance. For instance there are always two sides of a coin, in most cases there are one positive side and one negative side. If you fail you thus can turn that failure into something positive that can make you get stronger and succeed next time. So the dynamic and vivid imagination is important to get rid of the disturbances of the mind.
In the same way the relaxed dynamic natural vision habits removes disturbance and keeps up accurate balance.

Once you just remove the disturbance then what is left, it is the default relaxed source of mind of clear vision.

This is the art of seeing Smile

The traveller mind of vision - hammer - 04-21-2012

The foveal vision is a "traveller".
Because if you would turn to ask if it has found paradise, then it would already be gone.

Re: Peace in mind - Nini - 04-22-2012

Hi Hammer
Recently I read something about 'intrinsic motivated flow', and I think you could use a lot of this description to characterize the 'absorbed and undisturbed' 'state of mind' which helps to clear vision:
Quote:Certain elements are needed to achieve flow:
...
* Complete absorption in the activity
* Merging of action and awareness
* Total concentration
* Loss of self-consciousness
...
* The absence of certain outward goals or rewards
* Effortless movement
...
* Appropriate focus maintenance.
...

Some things that may prevent flow are:

* Not feeling physically prepared and ready
...
* Fatigue
* Not feeling good
* External Stresses
...
* A lack of confidence
* Negative thinking
* Self-doubt
* No control of mental state
* Thinking too much
* Worrying about what others are doing
* Not relaxed enough
* Too relaxed
...
* Daydreaming
* Loss of concentration
* Self doubt
* Putting too much pressure on yourself
( <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.psychologycampus.com/sports-psychology/intrinsic-motivation.html">http://www.psychologycampus.com/sports- ... ation.html</a><!-- m --> )
Maybe some more elements of the text(...) would also be worth of some consideration...

Most certainly you are right Nini. If you believe in yourself due to that you do the right things in a strong way, then some people eventually will notice it and tell your boss, and the boss will not reveal how wrong or puzzled he was, instead he will be even more convinced that you are worth a lot more positive feedback than you would have expected originally.

Now to some cool thing I have been doing recently:
I watched a Hawaii Beaches Video each evening before I go to bed.
I found out that my eyesight improved drastically every time I watched this video, link is down at the bottom.
But , I needed to watch the video in a certain way, the Hakalau way in combination with the "Davids method" and headphones. It is important to shift the eyes all the time, like if it was the movement that is the beauty on the beauty of the details, driven by no effort. I found out that the feeling I had was that I was present and totally there in three dimensions, even if I had forgotten myself as a person. It is possible to expand the awareness such that you actually feel as if you are there on the beach, because the peripheral vision is a bit fuzzy and you can fill it up with the expanded awareness you like 360 degrees around you. That is imagination. But you cannot fool the foveal vision, it is detecting new things all the time that you did not see before, it is thus the soul of your adventurer mind. If you shift on very small details then you automatically enable your imagination fully. Because the details are so small that they are not completely defined and there is lots of room for imagination there. Thus the imagination and movement comes by product, and also I think the Hakalau actually comes by product if you have natural visual habits. That is so cool. Remark that in that state the autonomic nervous system is in balance and relaxed. There is pure awareness, no fear, no anger. That is a state you need to remember and store, in your mind, to recall later on when circumstances creates a lot of stress upon you, the memory of clear vision is important to see clearly in mind. That seems to be a state of clear vision pretty analogous to yours. It doesn't matter that the video screen size is small, it is better the smaller it is as long as you have enough resolution to shift effortlessly.

Re: Peace in mind - Jeff - 05-26-2012

Hi hammer,

very interesting to read. I have watched the hawaii video and it really relaxes you in these 4 minutes, I can imagine it will help to get better vision.

I made an interesting experience once, but that was after listening to music. I listened to this song late at night, with headphones and really loud, smiling all over the face and moving slightly to the music, eyes closed. I cant tell you what state of mind that was, but I had nearly perfect vision for like 5 minutes. Probably there are much more possibilities with video and audio sources than we all know.

So, here is the song, Im sure its not music for everybody, the genre could be called...heavy psychedelic rock?

I think it is a relaxing song too, that could improve vision for some people. As an analogy I think you can for instance describe it as a window opener: have you experienced that you wake up in the morning, still almost half asleep, and then someone opens a window very little, and you feel the fresh air that comes in to the room, and it makes you feel so good. I think there are lots of such "little window openers" that may have the positive effect of bringing good thoughts and thus good feelings. Actually it all is about how we think and feel, because we all create our instant "daily world" around us as well as our future, thus the thoughts and feelings manifests. I think more people should activate the third eye to learn how to navigate.

Re: Peace in mind - hammer - 05-27-2012

eyesea Wrote:if you want peace of mind, be at peace with it.

That might be true Eyesea.
In some way you say that there is a default exit state that you always can enter no matter what happens.
Yes, that is true, the inner retreat (or the lifeline), but it is also a passive way where you don't really create your own future.
Instead you much rely on external factors and thus you just follow the flow.
So that could imply that you end up in a situation that is not tolerable in the long run, with more stress and so on and finally that default exit state could even become closed, you get burned out and so on.

If you can affect your situation for the better,
then I would say that it is much better to decide and act in the instant moment instead,
thus to use the power of the instant moment,
and thus to create your own life and your own peace in mind.
If you manage to bring peace into your life I think also that you managed to bring peace to others around you in your life.
The more peace in mind we get the easier it becomes to navigate in the instant moment.
So it is all a feedback loop, more peace, better navigation possibilities, more peace, and so on.
This is exactly what the sub conscious mind needs in order to be able to be accessed properly.

In the land of no strain - hammer - 08-25-2012

Every moment is new, like a colorful circle that is empty because it is waiting for you to fill it up with what ever you think life is.

I close my eyes and take deep breaths. I feel the air into my eyes that feels so heavy because they are resting crystal clear in the land of no strain.

Re: In the land of no strain - hammer - 09-04-2012

Yesterday I watched an interview with the famous director Ingemar Bergman, he was a master indeed.
I have some quotes, see below, that he told in the interview.
I always thought that this man has something interesting to tell, because he always had creativity, imagination, tranquility, harmony, a really clear mind, humour and a lot of wisdom. He was also dealing with lots of emotions in his films, and that is exactly what is needed to understand vision as well.

You can see the whole interview part 1 to 6 at;
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Ingmar+Bergman+-+Interview+%28%3F%2F6%29&oq=Ingmar+Bergman+-+Interview+%28%3F%2F6%29&gs_l=youtube.3...5902.13073.0.13489.4.4.0.0.0.0.42.115.4.4.0...0.0...1ac.Vm1E-_I8-pA">http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... m1E-_I8-pA</a><!-- m -->

Ingemar Bergman Wrote:Sometimes, before I go to sleep I wander around Grandma's apartment. And I can remember exactly where the furniture was. What the paintings looked like, where the clocks hung. What the carpets looked like, smelt like. How you passed from one room to the other. It's kind of a bedtime ritual, that can be really nice to have. I still have direct connections to my earliest childhood. I guess that is why I still like playing. I mean my profession. It is a kind of game.

Ingemar Bergman Wrote:When we deal with something so incredibly irrational as people's emotions. You cannot waste time on irrelevant emotions. There must be order, tranquility and harmony. And prefarably fun. It is very good if someone has a joke to tell. A bit of light relief. But it's got to be orderly. I hate it when people turn up at the last second.

He made a list of all his demons, might be good to have such a list, why don't you write down one yourself !
Ingemar Bergman Wrote:The Demon of Disaster.
The Demon of Fear.
The Demon of Rage.
The Demon of Pedantry.
The Demon of Punctuality.
The Demon of Order.
The Demon of Grudges.

Non existing:
The Demon of Nothingness (regarding creativity and imagination).

Sleep - hammer - 09-27-2012

Hello,
Today I managed to get some basic insights about sleep, and I just wanted to share some viewpoint that is not directly obvious but yet very simple. I understod that this area is about many simple tricks, easy to learn, easy to follow, efficient good results, if you do the right things.

For instance,
to get a good sleep you shall wake up exactly at a specific time each morning, let's say at 07:00.
If you know that you just need 7 hours of sleep, then you shall go to bed at 24:00.
But if you know that you did not sleep well last night, then it might be that you instead needs 8 hours of sleep, and then you need to go to bed at 23:00. So in other words the time when you go to bed shall not be fixed, it must be dynamic and it depends on how you slept last night. And the time you wake up shall always be fixed.
When you wake up it is important to get daylight rather directly, because the rythm of sleep/awake is controlled by the daylight. At lunch it is thus very beneficial to go out and walk in daylight. You shall get as much daylight as you can during the day.

For instance,
If you have not slept well, one easy trick to get relaxed is to breath with your stomach. Hold your hand on your stomach, then breath in through your nose and feel how your stomach gets bigger, hold your breath, and then breath out through your mouth.

One thing that is rather interesting is that during sleep information is transfered from a "short time storage memory" to a "long time storage memory". Everything that you have experienced and learnt during the day is stored in this short memory. When you sleep information in the short memory is evaluated, analysed, filtered and then moved/stored into the long memory. But ! If you have not slept well last night then the short memory is not completely emptied/cleared and that means that you will end up in problems to learn new things during the next day, because there is bullshit of information left in the short memory that distorts learning. So this could in worst scenario lead to that you fall into some kind of a self perpetuating negative spiral that makes it more and more difficult to learn new things. However you can easily break the spiral just by getting better sleep over time, and that does not mean to sleep too long.

This means in fact that also vision follows the same memory rules, because it is most dependent on memory and imagination. Thus you know now the basis to get better interest, memory and awareness of the details you are looking at.

By the way, do you happen to have used some Iphone app called "mindfulness" with Jon Kabat-Zinn, does it work ? I am curious because I don't own an Iphone, but I might have to buy one sooner or later so I can do some vision training with it.

Poem about details - hammer - 09-28-2012

Some people relax to poetry, it is like a healing drum of peace in mind.

A Galaxy Over There. The details that I am looking at are more real than all the rest !!
What a wonderful poem this is:

Relax out of fear, walking on snow without leaving a trace ! - hammer - 10-05-2012

So the title "walking on snow without leaving a trace" is an analogy for not letting fear leave traces/disturbances in your mind. I think it is a rather good affirmation for me actually.
I tell you little more about what it also means to me.

A simple advice to overcome fear/hate (and relax into seeing) is to imagine something you fear for and overcome it until you reach into deeper tranquility (more effortless natural visual habits).
For instance you can imagine a tiger in your garden or some person that you hate.
Then you look at details of the imagined tiger.
Initially this will cause some temporary strain to your mind/eyes,
but that is what you shall overcome.
Thus you keep relax into seeing,
while you thus look at the imagined tiger more and more effortlessly,
until you eventually you shall feel tranquil in both your eyes and mind,
despite that you thus still look into the eyes of that tiger.

This I believe is effective for me,
my vision improvement is lasting much longer and you get mentally much stronger,
and much more tranquil alert thinking, communicative, mind, and eyes.
You feel much faster and smarter inside despite that you are more tranquil,
that is an awesome combination actually.
So the road of tranquility is actually full of a lot of road blocks (such dependencies) that you need to identify and then eliminate mentally with this I think rather simple technique.
In other words the tranquility needs a level of maintenance in order to prevail !

Cheers !
