I was envious of some people who had perfect vision. Now I see that they wear reading glasses. I'm not so envious any more. Is myopia useful for countering the effect of presbyopia as we age?

Maybe, but it all depends on good habits of using the eyes. I know several people personally who never wore glasses, got reading glasses for close vision, then soon needed mild distance glasses too.
