The correct way to hold a book or other reading material - neptune - 07-27-2013

Hi. This seems like a really basic question, but I can't really find an answer to it anywhere. In the Bates Method, what is the correct way to hold a book, etc.? If you're sitting down, should you hold it in front of you so that you're looking straight ahead, or should you just let it rest on the table, like food on your plate? Obviously, if you let it rest on the table, you have to hold you head down to read it.

And about how many inches away from your eyes should you hold your reading material if you're nearsighted?

Thanks for any clarification on this.

1. do what is comfortable first and foremost
2. change the way you do things now and then

try this:

the next time you're reading for a while, test the comfort of your reading posture by suddenly closing your eyes. Do they burn? Do you immediately feel like shifting position? Those are signs that you should try a different position, take a break, or change the way you use your eyes.
