Is palming suppose to take away the effort to see because of the reality that you are not seeing nothing when you cover your eyes? And another question is that the illusion that the strained eyes see's like patches of white gray etc when palming is that a way that the brain creates images in order for you to strain as a habit of straining with the eyes open?

Those white gray patches of light are a result of you making an effort to see, which means strain. From what I know, when people with imperfect vision palm, they will see those patches of light because they are TRYING to see something that isn't there.
When you palm, DO NOT LOOK into that field where the patches of light appear, because then you will be straining to see!!!

Yeah, the point is to be focusing on something else. Preferably a soothing or relaxing mental imagery which you can imagine in the greatest of detail. Bates' book goes into great detail on this as I remember, I'd read that section again.
Dont you benefit most from 'seeing black' when palming? According to Bates.
I'm not sure. It all seems a bit metaphorical to me. Seeing black might mean seeing nothing. Seeing a color will have associations etc.
