What are your thoughts on faith and how it can influence vision recovery? I'm not talking about a religious faith per say. I'm referring to an absolute certainty that one can develop pertaining to anything one chooses. A very strong belief that what is wanted is what will happen and trusting in the positive outcome of all thoughts and deeds.
I have a deep faith in science, and accurate facts.
These facts lead me to support preventive measures -- where possible.
Objection to that minus lens is indeed the second-opinion.
The real skill is to apply scientific concepts to encourage the person
to use these preventive methods (i.e., always pass the DMV Legal requirement)
before you begin wearing that FIRST minus lens.
There is a lot of "blindness" towards prevention (as David accurately points out), so
we need to understand the science behind prevention.
I've thought about this too! There was a time several months ago when I read sweeping amounts of weird new age articles and got a temporary feeling that anything was possible if we squeezed out all our skepticism. This was also the time I started noticing that I always strain when looking into the distance. I instinctively felt that I could easily cure my vision if just once I looked into the distance without straining for a change. And I got several wonderful clear flashes through this kind of belief.
I could just as easily use the word "trust" to describe what I have been experimenting with. At the bottom of it, it's fear that prevents relaxation and affixes patterns of strain in our mind. On the opposite side of fear is trust. It's as simple as choosing to trust yourself. "I saw clearly at one time and I can see clearly again!". That trust can be created through shear will power. I choose to breathe fully, relax and develop MENTAL CONTROL.
Otto I fully agree with you on that trust concept. I had a LOT of fears regarding to my eyes. You now I got lenses at age 2 because of hyperopia and strabismus.I remember every time I was at the eye specialist and I couldn't fuse the two images he told to my father that I won't fuse and won't see in 3D ever. Of course he told me that hyperopia is a genetical thing I was born with this so I got the feeling my eyes are bad. I hated my eyes and the most thing I hated is my strabismus. I hated that I can choose with which eye I want to see. I have to choose all day long...why?
Ok I started Bates method with a totaly wrong attitude. Wanted fast results, well not BIG but noticable. I didn't got any because I wanted it so much and I strained hard. Actualy I got more strain from the methods! Jeez was I disappointed and lost my trust that was never a high level regarding to my vision. THIS IS BIOLOGY, it's anatomically WRONG, why would it change?
Anyway I managed somehow to put down my glasses 1 year ago. I never use it, because I can drive, read, and see what I have to see. It was a rough year, but now I can let go more and more of my eyes.
And the main thing that helped is that I want to an optometrist and he measured my eyes and it improved quite a lot. If that can not give me faith what could give?
I think vision can't be improved without faith. Without faith you can not say: ok I make my daily routine practice and the rest is up to my body because my body and the true nature of my consciousness knows how to use my eyes in a proper way. I am the one who thinks he can control my vision, but I think that is exactly the problem, that's why I have to chose between my eyes, because I think I have to chose, but there is no choice, just a forced one. I don't know why I am how I am but I truely hope I can get my eyes straight and see clearer and clearer.

That was very well put. I couldn't have said it better myself! That is a monumental realization when it comes. We just have to give ourselves a regular experiential reminders of this truth by observing Bates techniques. I have a hunch that my vision may not clear until I am breathing with awareness the majority of the time. "Being aware"- Not a bad goal in and of itself.
