Palming and eye pressure

Could somebody with knowledge comment on the effect of PALMING on eye pressure.
The literature warns and recommends limiting palming from very long to several minutes, otherwise the eye pressure can go up dangerously.
Why should it be limited? After all we sleep for 7-8 hours (eyes closed). Besides, eyes are (by definition) more relaxed during palming than during sleep.

I am not sure of this.
I warn students who have glaucoma to have their eye doctor monitor their eye pressure in case it goes lower, back to normal because they may need their medication reduced so the pressure does not go too low.
Maybe it can increase if the person does palming wrong and it stresses them.
I am also interested in more replys on this subject.

What literature are you referring to?

It's possible to tense your eyes more while palming, and maybe that increases pressure. But you aren't putting pressure on your eyes with your hands, so there's really nothing about it that's dangerous.
