Looking at details is nothing more than what Bate's said: the mind cannot remember what it is not interested in (therefore you cannot see).

Bate's writing is comprehensive and it's irrelevant to try and re-write what he prescribed.

Just re-read his writings over and over again because there's layers to it. When you achieved what it means to shift, go read it again ....bingo! you find more steps to further your progress.

Exactly what I found out recently. I wouldn't necessarily call it "comprehensive" though. If Bates makes you figure it out, it means that he was unable to express some of his thoughts into words (which is understandable, considering how much there was to say; he might very well not have had the space or the time).

But yes, rereading the Bates book is an odd experience. You think you know everything, and then you read it again and realize that there's so much more. Sort of like Bates is lighting the path for you. I believe that all learning works like this. You learn a bit, learn some more, and you eventually realize that the cycle is never-ending.

A myopic 'looking at details' in the distance he sees blur.

Sounds paradoxical, its this statement which bugs me if its just put forth that plainly. How does that person, at this moment, see details in the distance!
The most he can really do is imagine, correct? He can see details at that distance only if sees clear. So, what is he really doing in the first place?

That is not entirely true. We remember things we don't want to. The thing that is more evident is we might not see things clearly we are not interested in.
