I just wanted to show you this paragraph I readed in Bates' original, 'Perfect Sight Without Glasses' (read the part I made bold heheehe). I think it will cheer you guys up.

Quote:The fact that glasses are very disfiguring may seem a matter unworthy of consideration in a medical publication; but mental discomfort does not improve either the general health or the vision, and while we have gone so far toward making a virtue of what we conceive to be necessity that some of us have actually come to consider glasses becoming, huge round lenses in ugly tortoiseshell frames being positively fashionable at the present time, there are still some unperverted minds to which the wearing of glasses is mental torture and the sight of them upon others far from agreeable. Most human beings are, unfortunately, ugly enough without putting glasses upon them, and to disfigure any of the really beautiful faces that we have with such contrivances is surely as bad as putting an import tax upon art. As for putting glasses upon a child it is enough to make the angels weep.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!, bates seemed to show a comical side to his work?

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Tongue

Too bad they edited this part out in the 'Better Eyesight Without Glasses' version - and they also changed his famous phrase 'it is enough to make the angels weep' to 'it is enough to make anyone sick at heart', I wonder why...  Quote from book -->

Quote: The fact that glasses are disfiguiring may seem a matter unworthy of consideration here, but mental discomfort does not improve either the general health or the vision, and while we have gone so far inward making a virtue of what we conceive to be necessity that some persons have actually come to consider glasses becoming, there are still some unperverted minds to which the wearing of glasses is mental torture and the sight of them upon others is far from agreeable. As for putting glasses upon a child, it is enough to make anyone sick at heart.

Good question... that second, altered passage was enough to make me 'sick at heart'. The first was much better. Whatever happened to comedy. Smile
