Hi marlon,
Seems like there are some other studies done that shows that some patients' condition had become worse from this treatment.

See link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laetrile

Dear Friend,

Let me add annother question.

Is the cure for obesity known? ???

And when it becomes "known" -- who has
the responsibility for preventing it? ???

Hi Petal.
"Although it can be a helpful learning tool, there are some inherent dangers to using it that you need to keep in mind:
ANYONE can edit Wikipedia and say ANYTHING they want. It's an encyclopedia written exclusively by its readers. Although this promotes freedom of speech, it also opens the door to slanderous misrepresentation of the facts and the assassination of people's character. " - From a friend.

It's important to know that wikipedia and other similar websites has this to say about the Bates method:
"The efficacy of the method is questionable". This is why I don't trust wikipedia 100%. Just my opinion. ;D

Also, do you know that the FDA (in america) destroys health books? Sad but true.

(Long read but it's worth it)

Hi Otis. I'm not sure about the cure for obesity. Sorry. Sad

Dear Marlon,

I have reviewed the 1913 study extensively. (Conducted by Bates).

There is NO REASON to think that Bates FALSIFIED the data he presented.

Any FUTURE study -- should include "LESSONS LEARNED" FROM THAT STUDY.

The problem was that the "group" were children.

If you conducted a PREVENTIVE study, with truly educated, and MOTIVATED
people (at the same level, 20/60 to 20/70) -- I think the persons involved
(intellectually) could become successful.

There is a huge "block" in the National Eye Institute about this issue. ???

The sit on their ass -- and simpy "trash Bates" rather than THINKING
about the future.

Just my engineering second-opinion Smile

I have a feeling that the obesity question was rhetorical. As for wikipedia, I certainly don't hope you were expecting them to accept a non-mainstream theory. We may think badly of them for discrediting Bates, but I don't want to think of the lambasting they would receive for supporting us.

Additionally, it is standard practice to submit sources for the information you put on the wiki. If you don't like the wiki, look at the links. This is, in my opinion, a far better system than what many trusted sources do.

the cure for obesity? I don't think that was rhetorical. Excluding cases where something is simply genetically wrong, the cure is eating right and getting proper exercize. And why is that relevant here? Because half of cancers can be prevented in the same way - eating healthy and getting proper exercize (read it in the newspaper yesterday!) I suspect another large chunk of cancers could be prevented simply by reducing stress. Stress can, not surprisingly, be reduced by walking - the most natural form of exercize!

Personally, I don't think there are one shot pills for curing anything. In general people need to just turn off the TV (or computer now?) and move. Smile just some thoughts!

Dear friend,

Subject: The issue of preventing obesity.

Quote:the cure for obesity? I don't think that was rhetorical.

Otis> You are correct. The POINT was that (with the 1913 study) that you have the power
to prevent. But it does take PERSONAL motivation to do it.

Quote:Excluding cases where something is simply genetically wrong, the cure is eating right and getting proper exercize
.

Otis> The point here is that obesity can be PREVENTED (on the laws of physics) by NOT eathing so much, and
by exercise. The person can weigh himself, and AVOID entering obesity. I think Bates would have
made the same point. But it DOES take PERSONAL motivation in both cases.

Quote:And why is that relevant here? Because half of cancers can be prevented in the same way - eating healthy and getting proper exercize (read it in the newspaper yesterday!) I suspect another large chunk of cancers could be prevented simply by reducing stress.

Otis> Agreed. But is easy to talk about prevention. DOING it is profoundly difficult. And it does NOT depend on
medicine to prescibe anti-obesity methods. The person should be able to do it for himself.

Quote:Stress can, not surprisingly, be reduced by walking - the most natural form of exercize!

Otis> Agreed -- and that was my point and the need for people to develop that type of insight.
