Actually, my eyes feel dry after practicing the method(closed eyes under the sun). Anyone ever has the experience? Although it really benefits my eyes, but should i stop as soon as i feel uncomfortable? and i feel embarrassed practicing it outdoors, and how you solve the problem?
It's fine to do sunning indoors if you feel embarresed outside.
Dr. Bates himself has stated that there is no noticeable difference between doing it through a transparent window and directly. The benefits are just the same.
Yes, sunning with strong electric lights can be just as effective as sunning with the real thing. But you need a REALLY strong light if you want the full experience, i.e. 1000W.
If your eyes feel dry, try applying some moistuiriser or something?
If the skin really does react badly, then don't risk doing too much harm by going all out and doing it continuously hours upon hours. Go discreetly and incrementally, allowing your skin and eyemind to adjust under the new conditions of heat and light. (Perhaps this reaction of dryness is simply because the skin is not adapted to being under so much heat.) Accustom yourself gradually.
And yes, stop doing it as soon as you feel uncomfortable. Any of the exercises within the Bates System lose their value as soon as discomfort is produced. It's an indicator that you should move onto some other of the methods of gaining relaxation and then return when you feel able and ready. Otherwise you are just wasting time. The whole point of the sun treatment is to be able to do it without discomfort, by doing it gradually until this is possible. The benefits will be realized at their peak when you are able to follow the operation under 0% discomfort. Then proceed to open eyed sunning, AKA sun gazing. Then repeat the same procedure. By the way, another thing I should mention is that even though Bates recommends a 1000W lamp (if you are substituting electric for natural) this needs special wiring and can be difficult to set up. So he says that a 300W lamp will be OK for the purpose. See Better Eyesight Magazine, September 1927. He gives specific instructions there.
Remember that's 80 year old technology you're referencing. There's no reason a 1000 watt lamp would require special wiring today in the US. Of course you do need a lamp made for it - don't try sticking a 1000 watt bulb in a lamp that says "max 200 watts" or whatever.

also don't forget that WATT only means the energy consumed it doesn't mean the amount of light produced. Lamps have gone a long way since then, so It's very likely that a 1000W lamp 80 years ago produces as much light as say a 200W lamp now. But I have no certain figures on this however.
