Bates said that reading in a dim light benefits the vision. but he also said that it is not sunlight that harms the eyes but the dark. so is it good to read under the sun? if so, would it be incompatible? and is it better to read under strong light(lightbulb) or under soft light produced by daylight lamp? :
Both is beneficial to the sight, when you can be comfortable and at ease.
I love reading fine print under the full midday sun, and I also love reading under very dim lights. Constant changing of light conditions are themselves a benefit to the eye. It's normally easier for a person with imperfect sight to read under the sun, and then they can practice lessening the light until it is very low and still retain the sharp vision.
