I am writing this post with the glasses on my nose, and it seems like a failure to me.
I am presently in a dead-end with this 'eyes-reeducation' thing, and it affects me far too much.

I have been struggling on my lonely path towards 'normal sight' since 8 years now.

I wore glasses since the age of 4, after that I have been diagnosed with a slight strabismus, associated with slight hyperopia and astigmatism.
Strabismus was cured fast, but hyperopia and astigmatism remained.
My eyes prescription always remained the samed:
Right Eye: +0.50 (-0.50 145°)
Left Eye: +1.00 (-0.75 70°)

The main problem with my eyes is the pain; without glasses, my vision is '20/20' but this burning, aching feeling in the eyes almost never leaves, by close or far vision.

My path towards 'normal sight' began at the age of 20 (I am now 28), when I started to walk a lot through the city. I started to feel umcomfortable with my glasses : limitating my vision field, feeling their presence each moment on my nose, flattening the vision, deforming the colors, and so on... Something was wrong with the glasses, and I began to have difficulties to look through them, and I looked at them instead. Very embarrasing.

Looking for a solution without glasses, I discovered the brilliant work of Bates and the genius explanations from David, and full of hope, i set out on the path. I began little by little to be convinced by the relevance and the efficiency of the method. I am now fully convinced that it works in a way.

Besides, since my teen years, I am dealing with strong anxiety/depression/emotionnal issues, and life is a challenge each day. I began very early to take an interest in relaxation/meditation/yoga, in order to tackle the roots of those 'problems'. Through this practices, I builded a kind of
bodily hypersensitivity and a 'too-reflexive-consciousness'; I hope that some of you understand what I mean by that.

This hypersensitivity associated to eye-strain feels like hell in daily life, when the eyes are open. Although the Bates Method works in a way, I didn't manage to have steady improvements regarding eye-strain, and I must say that I am now exhausted; without glasses, there is too much pain, and after all those years I can't manage to make up my mind to wear glasses again.

I am stuck.

I would appreciate any comments that could help me !

A few questions among others:
1) Is it possible that such a low grade of hyperopia/astigmatism produces such pain in the eyes ?
2) Is this 'psychological self-reflexive-hypersensitivity' the core problem ?

With gratitude to the Bates Method and to this website and its contributors !

My name is Tom.  I've been wearing prescription bi and trifocals for decades.  In that time some opticians and Ophthalmologists have told me I have astigmatism, and some claim I have no astigmatism...

I lost my glasses about three years ago and have been getting by using inexpensive 3.0 diopter reading glasses.  Frankly, I think I'm none the worse for it, and am perhaps better off, though my vision is not good.

In the past year or two I've noticed a very strange vision anomaly, and am not sure whether it's been with me all along.  I think it has been, and is the underlying source/cause of my blurred vision.  I noticed it while looking at a small red pilot light on an electronic device.  The room was dark and instead of seeing a single small dot or red light I saw a circular array of maybe 12 or 15 lights around that actual light - with additional lights filling the area between the actual/central light and the lights forming the circumference ring.

It looks like a pizza with carefully arranged pepperoni slices on top.

I've been researching a lot this past week and have learned the term "polyopia."  That seems to be what I'm exhibiting, but I'm not sure whether mine is cerebral (a brain issue) or ocular (an eye issue).  There are ways to determine which it is, but my circumstances don't apply strictly to either version.  So far, I think it's the ocular version because:

1) Use of pinhole glasses does overcome the multiple images (I can see clearly), and

2) In a dark room the multi-image array is fairly large, but turning on the light reduces it's size.

Both those results indicate an ocular rather than cerebral cause.  On the other hand, the multi-image array appears in both eyes and appears in each eye when the opposite eye is closed.  That seems to indicate cerebral rather than optical.  So I'm confused...  Ah, but look at how much I've learned thanks to the Internet!

That's my situation.  Thanks for reading.   Now I'll go ask some questions in the other forums.]]>

Just over a year ago, I made the decision to improve my vision. I am in my early 50s and have worn glasses/contacts since I was 10. Since the late 80s/early 90s my glasses prescription has been pretty much unchanged at L -6.0 and R -5.75. (My eyes were last tested in 2012.) During this time I have almost exclusively worn contacts at the corresponding contacts prescription of L -5.5 and R -5.25.

For a variety of reasons I decided in February 2016 I no longer wanted to continue wearing contacts, and that I didn’t want to wear glasses either! Around that time I had a chance encounter with someone who had improved their eyesight with eye exercises, which motivated me to find out more and begin my own journey.

I have been doing what many of you are doing: palming, ocular stretches and rotations, wearing under-corrected lenses (or no glasses at all for most indoor activities), print pushing and walking outdoors without glasses for at least 30 minutes every day.

Fourteen months later, according to my own measurements (i.e., far-point distance when reading) I am at L -4.75 and R -4.5.

In order to have this independently verified, I went into an optical store today and inquired about getting my vision tested. Very unpleasant experience! The employee was extremely dismissive when I mentioned I felt my eyes had improved. He had me put on the glasses I had with me (L -3.75 R -3.75) to read the Snellen chart and I read up to Line 6 (20/40) and might have also read the next one if he hadn’t made me feel so uncomfortable.

He then held -6.0 trial lenses over my eyes and asked me to read the very bottom line on the chart (20/16), which of course I did. According to him, this proves my old prescription is the right one! (My own conclusion is very different.)

This was my first attempt at getting my eyesight “officially” tested since I started my vision improvement efforts. How can I find a "vision improvement-friendly" optician? I am in the Vancouver, BC area, if anyone has any suggestions. Thank you!]]>

I have presbyopia with 1.5 Right and  1.75 left.My left eye is weaker than the right one.
I started for a while now.,Bates eye improvement exercises like palming, sunning long swing ,reading small print(check for white space between the lines) every day.
I think I have some improvements. My biggest problem that I cannot get rid off , is double, triple(and more) vision.
This practice so far enabled me to read  with the eyes half open and a lot of blinking. Ass soon as I open them  fully the vision of letters come double or triple overlapping making the letters very difficult to distinguish. SO my concern is this an improvement or not? Or I'm squinting?
I\m not sure because After I relax my eyes by closing them or by palming If I open them half way like flashing I can see quite good.On the other hand this is similar with pinhole glasses effect. The fact is idk how to get rid of multiple visions. On the other hand Bates use this method of relaxing eyes and flashing eyes for a fraction of second which is also similar with pinhole effect.
I need an opinion I'm doing something right or I have to stop and deal differently with multiple visions. I'm  writing  this without glasses on bigger font and plenty blinking to see the letters better so I may confuse some letters.

Thanks for any support you may offer.]]>

I ended up going to LCrafter at the mall.
The young eye dr. recommended:
OD -7 C -0.5 Axis 025
OS -6 C 0.00 Axis 00 0

I went back for a second fitting with another eye dr. in the same office knowing it was a stronger eye prescription than needed.

The second eye dr. said he had about the same result but I know it is 2, 3x stronger than needed.
2nd new prescription:
OD -6.50 C -0.75 Axis 065
OS -5.50 C -0.25 Axis 100

Reading prescription
OD -5.50 C -0.75 A065
OS -4.50 C-0.25 A100

With the new eyeglasses, vision seems to be off when I look left.
I found glasses had taken off when I was reading bottle labels at the pharmacy.

Didn't know whether I should get a new pair of eyeglasses with the new reading prescription as I am comfortable with the old reading prescription.

There was a post about someone going thru the 1.5hr eye exam and ended up with a reduced prescription.

I am looking for a natural vision optometrist in Boston area who won't overcharged as it will have to be out of pocket.
ClarkNights Bates method on to do list.

Thank you]]>

First i want apologize for my language, bulgarian english grammar is hard for me Big Grin .  I am 25 years old and i started seeing worse at around the age of 7, i never wore my glasses of school because i was scared that everybody will make fun of me, so from first to eight grade i was not wearing glasses and i had to squint in order to see the board and naturally i was very bad in school. In 9th grade i started using contacts, i wore them for 2 years with time my eyes started rejecting them, they felt dry etc. And in grade 11 i finally put on pair go glasses, without caring about the opinion of others (i was a person with with very bad mentality as you can imagine, very low self esteem and lack a desire to live).
Everything started in the beginning of 2015 i was considering doing an Lasik eye surgery (so proud of myself that i did’t). So i was reading all those negative comments on the forums of people having problems after the surgery and etc. About that time a videos on youtube started popping on the recommended page, videos of people talking about those eye exercises and practices. So this idea started forming in my head, that maybe there is no need to do the awful eye surgery, and maybe there is an alternative way. And i quickly changed my mind about the Lasik, it was no longer an option, but i hated the glasses, so i needed to do something, it was a period in my life that my mindset became more healthy and i wanted to become a better person in every area in life. I did more research and i found about dr. Bates and that there is quite a lot of people who restored their vision, i found this forum and some youtube channels. It was april 1st that everything started for me i was at the book store and i saw a book by Leo Angart (i think the book is great just the bulgarian translation lost some of its real meaning). I read the book immediately and i started doing the exercises that Mr Angart was recommending. I still went to the eye surgery clinic but just to do an eye exam on their fancy equipment, according to the doctor my diopter was -3 for both eyes with -0.5 cylinder, so not that bad, compered to some other people. But i no longer wanted to wear glasses, knowing that there is hope, the first month when i took off the glasses was really scary for me, i was afraid to cross the street, and at night my vision was horrible (good thing i decided not to do the surgery and saved the money so i had the oppurtunity not work, at least for that year, plus i was still at uni). So i was doing mainly palming and the long swing, and i had a chart that i used, i use a rope and and a pencil exercise that you make the rope and move the pencil and notice how fat away you can move it and see the letters, i also use a tibetan wheel. At the same time i was reading the forum and the posts on the site, and i got the idea that i was doing the exercises wrong because i was still straining, and i had the mentality that if i  want to achieve clear vision i have to be like solider, and that was wrong. So i got the original book of dr. Bates, and after reading it more stuff became clear to me. It was the summer of 2015 when i had my first clear flash, it was on of the most joyful experiences . And till the end of the year i was noticing small improvements in my vision, clear flashes started to appear more often and my nigh vision improved (i remember when i was still wearing my glasses i was having trouble to see in the dark, for example i was walking home in the nigh and i was stepping in potholes and ect, i had the sharpness form the glasses but i just was not able to see the detail in the dark i don’t know if it makes sense) i was walking confidently at night and i was seeing more detail in the darkness just not sharp. Till the end of the year my understanding of how vision works improved. From the begging of 2016 i started working a computer job, it was good that it was not that stressful and hat a lot of downtime that i use to swing on the chair Big Grin . I wore glasses with -1.25 of diopters and i was seeing everything on the monitor just fine, without straining. I was wearing the glasses only for work i didn't have a car at that time. I worked on this job till the end of April, the downside was that i stopped doing my exercises as often i kinda stop palming and just did the long swings and that was it. At the same time i saw my first clear flash at night it was just for a moment and it was more like 20/40 but i was still felt very good. And from May till September i moved to USA for a work and travel program and i did 2 jobs and i stopped doing any practices, i was just doing palming once a day for no longer than 5 minutes. Most of the time i was forgetting that i was short sided, my jobs didn't require sharp vision, but the summer had its stressful moments and i guess i started staring again (i did not wore glasses at all even while traveling, and being in the airports, i didn't have to use them). When i got back in Bulgaria i bought a car and i attempt to drive without my glasses, it was not bad at all in the sunny weather i was seeing almost clear i would assume something like 20/50, i was seeing the road signs and people crossing the streets, so i didn't felt unsafe.  And for bad weather, night and highway driving i used my -1.25 glasses even though i think i will feel more comfortable with -1.50 for the night. But in the day time when i was going for a drive, i would completely forget that i was myopic and at some point i will remember that i was living my dream and i was feeling good about it (i was probably straining at some degree without even noticing it).

But fast forward to now in October my money saving are going low and I'm trying to get a job and there is nothing available, and there is some other factors, my stress level went high again (even thought i became more comfortable with myself and learned to relax). I recorded a video of my eyes while looking at the chart, and i saw i was squinting again. I wouldn't say that my vision became worse but I'm feeling that something is wrong. I recently started doing palming for longer, for half an hour a session  and 15-20 minutes of swinging. I noticed on the chart that my left eye sees worse, in the year a half of practices i never use just one eye for the chart, i always used two of them (maybe a big mistake). Anyways yesterday in the morning after palming, sunning and swinging i read a single letter of the 20/30 line form 20 feet(of course its not like just glancing at the chart and seeing clearly, i took a while to clean up, but still thats good) And the same day i went for a walk and i saw an eye doctor office and i decided to check my eyes. So i was in shock after at the results, according to their subjective tests, i had -2.75 dippers for both eyes, and -1 cylinder at 90 degrees for the left one and -0.75 at 75 degrees for the right. I knew it was subjective but i started shacking, and after leaving the office i my vision was very blurry. So theoretically i had almost no improvement, and higher astigmatism ?! I felt discouraged for a moment, but i will never stop doing the practices, i really want to be strain free, and i want my mind to see clearly. Thats my short story, i would appreciate any feedback, and what you guys think why the test showed that result after year and a half.
 Thanks!

 Thanks!

I am an occasional visitor of this forum. Some of you may not recognize me because I haven't been actively participating. I know about Bates Method since 2009.

Anyways, I came across Quantum Vision System. Has anyone heard of this? They claimed that they can help you achieve 20/20 vision in a matter of weeks even if your prescription is like -12. Can someone confirm weather this is some kind of breakthrough? I have always thought that improving vision takes a lot of time.]]>

Its nice to find a community to talk to about our journeys !

I have a question about that WTR astigmatism and eye exercises, any insight would be helpful.

My current prescription is as follows :

OD : (170° -2) -0,75
OG : (180° -2) -0,5

So I have some myopia, but my biggest problem is astigmatism and those damn horizontal lines that appear blurry.

I did some research on that specific type of astigmatism and it seems like that is WTR astigmatism.
My cornea is shaped like an american football lying on its side and the vertical meridian is steepest, which means tension exists around that meridian.

Now about my question, some eye exercises aimed at reducing astigmatism include a form of stretching eye muscles.

In the case of WTR astigmatism, should you focus on stretching the superior and inferior recti muscles in order to release the tension around the vertical meridian ? Or is it the opposite and you should focus on stretching the lateral and medial recti muscles to counter the pressure existing along the vertical meridian ?

I do eye stretches, eye rolls and tibetan wheel but i am not able to feel tension in one specific direction.

Thank you for your precious help !]]>

It is incomprehensible to me that so many of us rely on the crutches we call glasses.

My own story story starts with remembering watching floaters in my eyes at an early age, and getting glasses at 8.  From there it of course went downhill with my left eye stabilizing at 20/400 and right at 20/150 .  After 40 years of nearsightedness and half hearted attempts to improve my far vision, I decided to start an intense - 2to3 hours a day - practice of extending the focal length of my left eye.
Three years ago I could focus to read at a maximum of 9 " with my left eye. Now I can easily focus to 18" for any period of time.  For a short period- 10 seconds, with the left eye I can read an eye chart at 20 /40 , but cannot hold it.  It can take up to 5 minutes to get to this point. My "exercises" are to watch a geometric needlepoint  or textures on the wall 10 feet away.  When the texture or lines temporarily become clearer, I try to become more aware of the muscles surrounding my eye, and to maintain the better vision as long as possible.
My right eye seems to have come along in the improvement although it has not participated in the many hundreds (maybe thousands ) of hours of visual awareness training of the left. I can now pass the driver test (20 /40 )with the right,  but without making the constant mental effort to relax the muscles and focus at the distance, my far vision fades.  Now I work at maintaining the longer and longer glimpses of better vision.

At 68 years old, I'm sure it is much more difficult to improve my vision, but it is working!  As much time as I have spent working at it, I can see how it is much easier to continue to use glasses. (Most of you don't want to lie awake for 2 hours every morning relaxing eye muscles.)

I am of the firm opinion that nearsighted children should be instructed to hold their books and ipads and computers at their far focus point and learn to relax  their eye muscles, allowing the eyeball to shorten.   As usual, prevention is the easiest and best option to keep the next generation away from glasses.

Had to learn to relax to touch my toes- now I'm learning to relax to see the distant clouds.

Suddenly one day back in 2013 i realized that i could not see with my right eye. I went to the eye doctor and he diagnosed me. He predicted that it would get worse by time. I belived that if the cornea could change it shape without external tools from smooth to conical, then it should be possible to change the shape back naturally.

My right eye was diagnosed as a severve keratoconus case and i was categorized blind in my right eye and i was slightly myopic in my left eye. I started to read a lot about the eyes, natural vision improvement, meditation and more. I started natural vision improvement, then i stopped. For the past 2.5 years i've not been practising natural vision improvement on a regular basis. I start with it, then i quit and so on. My eyesight is approx. the same now as it was 3.5 years ago.

Its very difficult for me to let go in the practise, palming for instance.  Any advice? I would also be very interested in a skype-community where one can share experiences and discuss natural vision improvement. Does it exist? That would be a really good motivator! Does it exist? If not, give me a sound if someone is interestedSmile]]>

my name is Jarek. I'm 32 years old and I live in Poland. This year (2016), on January, I got my first prescription (-1 spherical / -1 cylindrical). I've been playing computer games for hours a day and I think that's the main reason for my poor eyesight. However, I had some stressful health issues as well, which could also contribute towards my bad vision. Furthermore, for about two months now I'm experiencing slightly double vision, which really worries me.

I don't wear glasses. However, there are times when I wish I didn't know about this whole Bates method and just get used to wearing glasses.

I have slim hope that my eyesight can naturally improve, but probably not on its own. So, any guidance would be highly appreciated. What should I do, read or think in order to improve my vision ?]]>

I do not want to wear glasses.

What should I do??
How to relax my eyes?? Especially before sleep.

Accidentally, I find this forum.
Hopefully in this forum I can find a way to clear my eyes.

I am sorry my english so bad!!

A couple of years ago we noticed that sometimes his left eye was wandering up and away. This prompted us to see a few doctors and do many exercises and read information on it.

We completed a session of vision therapy with some improvements, and currently we are taking him to an osteopathic doctor for cranial manipulations.

Two months ago the optometrist noticed that his left eye is unevenly farsighted than his right eye.
This was confirmed by the pediatric ophthalmologist and she absolutely insisted on him wearing glasses. (Left eye +2.25, cylinder 0.50, 150 axis; Right eye 0) She diagnosed him with mild amblyopia due to the fact that his refraction is uneven.
In addition, our son recently mentioned that his left eye sees duller than his right eye.
The doctor explained this as not having enough visual stimulation.

I was asking the doctor if under-correction would be possible at one point? But she answered that full prescription is what he requires in order for both of the eyes to work together.

Records show that about 1.5 years ago, during an comprehensive exam at the ophthalmologist both of the eyes were equally farsighted.

I am worried that if we keep him at his full prescription if this would remove his chances for weaning him off the glasses, as well as emmetropization of the left eye.

Does anyone have any suggestions or similar experience?
