Eyesight Improvement Forum - Success Stories https://www.iblindness.org/forum/ Fri, 03 May 2024 21:44:48 +0000 MyBB Ongoing, but definite success in my eyes! https://www.iblindness.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=3267 Fri, 14 Oct 2016 12:24:27 +0000 https://www.iblindness.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=3267
I started half heartedly maybe 2 or 3 years ago, but lived in a very dark apartment and was generally stressed out from finances so although I had time I was fairly depressed. But even though I didn't practice I practically scoured this forum which prepared me with the knowledge for a running start when I moved and completely turned my life inside out for the better. I will give more details in future blogs about what I learned here. With that background...

I officially started my healing journey when I moved May 28 2016 to a new, brighter (literally) future. I had no job so I had no reason requiring glasses for the first 2.5 months. This time was well spent relaxing, gazing at trees and in the distance and being incredibly self analytical about how I was using and holding my eyes. My last prescription is -5.25 in my left and right eyes.( A small success that made it easier to know this was the correct course of action is my right eye eas -5.75 until I stopped wearing glasses for 3 weeks a couple years ago. ) i also have astigmatism -2.5 @ 180 degrees in both eyes.

What I see now is ridiculously better than when I moved, and I will he getting an eye exam before the end of this month. I used to see nothing, things moved and danced when I looked at them, with the image rising up and moving side to side. I have had many headaches since starting to let my eyes relax and see on their own accord, but I attribute i mostly to my nervous system retracing. It has been the same pain as when I first waa given glasses. Within a couple days of this pain I always have improvement.

Where I am now is the images move up much less, I can read at times signs from 10-15 feet away when I could only pretend before, although the clear images usually is not where I know it to be. Usually it rises above but the distance is maybe 10% of how bad it used to be. At some point I will make a picture in Photoshop to show what I mean. It is the intense perfect clarity that convinced me my eyes could be healed regardless of where that image moves.

The biggest improvement has been in my self image. I have never seen myself with my own two naked eyes before. I did not realize how much that affected me. I am still not clear in the mirror 2 feet away, but I am no longer a shapeless blur. I have eyes, a nose a mouth...and sometimes for a split second it will become clear and I get to enjoy my pupils and irises.

I notice details now like never before. My eyes are not just brown, there is so much colot and variation! I can get lost in the patterns of my kittens' fur, i can look at and enjoy a tree for hours. My impatience in life continues to melt away as I give myself the time to look and enjoy without judgement but always with wonder and awe at the world around me. Every chance I get, which is almost always unless I am very tired, I pay attention to what I am looking at, how I am looking at it and allowing my eyes to move of their own accord as I focus my attention on different things.

I am very excited but also very nervous to see what my prescription is. At the same time, I already know my eyes are better because I can see it. I don't know what to expect but that is half the fun. I think of this journey, with its pain and discomfort, as a game because that is the easiest way to stay permanently engaged. Life is a game to me, after all :Smile

I was doing the bates method since March 2015 and sometimes I had clear flashes and my vision is getting better but when I went to eye doctor today and did the exam for my eyes he said my eyes still the same -3.75. I believe my eyes are better so I felt very down I thought my eyes have improved to at least -2 but I was wrong. I felt very down because one year went for nothing. I don't want to give up because I had very clear flashes for at least 5 seconds sometimes

My Eye Exercises and story to my success! https://www.iblindness.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=3103 Wed, 26 Aug 2015 05:02:40 +0000 https://www.iblindness.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=3103 He was a great optometrist and I love him. I will still see my eye doctor occasionally. I will just not wear glasses anymore. I researched my heart out, and realized the first step is to realize how lucky we are.

Seriously. If we have any vision at all, rather it be blurry or doubled, we have more than some people out there in the world. Some people were born blind. Some blind from genetics. Some became blind from disease. Some live blind on will. Like monks. My grandma was blind and I thought to myself how she lived so long, even after she went blind. More than 50 years. People do amazing things even though they are blind. They strengthen other senses and they move on from vision for good. Some claim to have even reversed being completely blind with The Bates Method.

With this in mind I decided to remove my glasses. That is the second step ladies and gentleman. Remove those suckers for good. If you have to wear them , for say driving then do so, but when you are home and don't need to see far out, then avoid them. Don't wear reading glasses when reading either. I have used pin hole glasses, and they work well if you have blurry vision, for say, if you are watching tv, or doing something you would otherwise squint for. Instead of squinting, which stresses your eyes and makes them blurry, put on pin hole glasses. Don't wear pin holes glasses for driving in. If you must drive, get a lower prescription if you can, so that you can see but have no eye strain when your eyes begin to heal. Remove eye glasses, and do not strain or squint. I used an Eyewash herb which helped as well, called Dr. Christopher's Eyebright herb extract. you put 5 to 8 drops in boiling water, let cool then wash your eyes out with it. burns for a minute but helps to clear your vision and floaters. People also use it for cataracts. It helps with strain and blood flow as well.

There are experiments out there that tested chickens and Pilots. Ones with myopic vision were given plus lenses. The exact opposite of what Myopic individuals need and this apparently had good effect. So to help my myopia, I put on plus lenses to see how my eyes would react, and to my surprise they did help, as well as helping the eye pains on my right eye. Upon looking at the Eye charts and information online, I realized the eye is actually larger from front to back than a normal eye, and opposite for nearsighted people. Nearsighted people have eyes that are too short. At last I realized why my muscles hurt so badly and why they were relieved by glasses of the opposite range. They were relieving stress off the muscle. So it is our muscles causing most of the problems.

I follow The Bates Method for most of my exercises.
At first I start by relaxing my eyes. Covering them with the palms till the tension leaves my vision. It should all become a black color when fully relaxed. Rest them as if you are trying to nap.

Then you should begin looking all around in every direction. I usually do this for up to 3 to 5 minutes, resting periodically to avoid strain. Remember strain and stress is your enemies. Look in the cardinal directions. North South, East West, North East, North West, south East, South West. At this point you could try to relax them again, with the palm technique. I usually go straight into the next exercise which is the conversion workouts.

You hold your finger out and watch the finger tip, as you bring it in toward your face and outwards. This can be done for a minute, and then you can change to other exercises. Next I usually do the split dot test.

This test is where there are 2 dots, both at the same distance as your pupils on the paper or monitor screen. You cross your eyes and uncross to make the dots merge and unmerge.
Many people can't do the convergence exercises at first so take it slow and relax. Trying it everyday will get you to the point where you can do them with ease. My mom simply likes to look down at her nose to accomplish this. She said crossing your eyes a little in any way helps. You can also do it with your finger tips.

Another convergence exercise I like to do is the window sill to street sign workout. You can look at anything to accomplish this but I like to choose things with sharp corners as it shows you how well you're improving while working them out. You simply look at your window sill and focus on it. Then focus outside onto something like a stop sign or mail box.

After doing The Bates Method every night and sometimes in the mornings, I will add my own little workout.

I will use my eyes to trace out the ABC's in the air. I usually do it 2 times, reversing the letters when going through the second time, as many ABC's are left side dominant, which I guess if good, if you need your left eye strengthened.

I can see so clearly now, that I never use glasses anymore. Even my pinhole glasses and plus lenses are gathering dust. I cleared it to 20/20 from 20/140 in about 2 years. The trick was realizing that its the muscles causing most of the issues. I have no pain and even earlier tonight I realized my night vision is even 100%!

Hopefully this gives my friend as well as many others insight on what to do and how to get started. In order to help yourself learn about what is happening. Take pictures of your pupils, and your eyes, and compare them to how they change over the exercises. Record your progress and do these everyday for the quickest effect. After just a week, you will see a lot of the blur lift making it much easier to feel confident about clearing your vision! I did notice changes in my pupils and eye shape over the past 2 years as my vision cleared. Remember, make it a nightly routine, do it for around 15 minutes at the least and never squint or stress those eyes.

Best of luck everyone!

These are the eye charts I used in case anyone wants them; they are fairly easy to use, and you don't even have to print them out, just follow the instructions on your screen, measure the required distance, and just use the chart.

Vision goes up and down https://www.iblindness.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=3038 Wed, 04 Mar 2015 10:09:07 +0000 https://www.iblindness.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=3038
1 - "Why do I experience much improvement in my vision, then it retreats back to a lower level of clarity? Not to the most unclear beginner level, but to a less clear level than most recent attainment?"

2 - "When I get a 'flash' of perfect visual clarity; after I blink; the clarity is lowered."

Answer #1; It is normal for the vision to fluctuate. People with perfect vision never have 20/20 and better sight all the time. It fluctuates, a natural healthy rhythm responding to the mind's state; emotions, thoughts. This includes diet, posture... Even when everything is running at optimum level, the vision fluctuates. It's natural. It is usually not noticed when the main clarity is at 20/20 and clearer level. It is noticed more when the vision needs improvement. Eyeglasses maintain the blur by locking a lower level of clarity into the eyes-vision, mind and eye muscles. Glasses prevent natural fluctuations; up, down and back to perfect clarity.

Let your vision move. Improve it to better than 20/20 and natural fluctuations won't be noticed, and; on a 'stressed out' day, will be minor.

Answer #2; The eye refocuses-re-adjusts the eyes' light rays when the eye 'vision' moves'; when the eyes shift to a new object or new part on a object. A normal temporary blur occurs during this time.
When the sight is clear and the mind-eyes, eye muscles are relaxed; the temporary blur is not seen because the eyes' shift is easy and fast, so the readjustment is fast. Saccades-shifts 70+ per second.

When the vision needs improvement; the mind, eye muscles need to relax. The level of tension will produce a certain level of blur when adjusting focus.
This also occurs when adjusting to a new distance.

Relax. Don't 'try' to see. Be patient; use the Bates Method. Avoid glasses. Let the eyes-vision be free and the temporary readjustment of light rays 'blur' will not be seen.

Recovery from 6D: my experience and some questions https://www.iblindness.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=2814 Tue, 05 Aug 2014 01:11:44 +0000 https://www.iblindness.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=2814
I wanted to introduce myself and also post some questions I had about my recovery.
've been wearing glasses for about 27 years. My prescription in 2007 was a -5.25/-6.75. In 2012 I found an optometrist who agreed to reduce it to -3.25/-4.75 for 20/40 correction. After I found out what my prescription was I worked on my own over the span of a year (in 2013) to carefully reduce it in 1 diopter increments.

Fast forward to today: I wear a -0.25/-0.25 glasses for daytime driving.
I'm able to confidently drive in the daytime with these and can see most road signs, but my vision isn't perfect. My questions are:

1) The vision quality/amount of blur fluctuates a lot and seems to be affected by the muscles surrounding the eyes. When those muscles cramp up, the vision gets blurry, but when they relax they get clearer. I can also feel the muscles at the side of the eye working when the distance vision clears up.

This is very different from the case of wearing strong glasses, where everything is crystal clear all the time and there are no fluctuations in vision.
Is normal vision supposed to fluctuate like this? Will it ever become HDTV sharp 100% of the time?

2) Night vision is still poor. The green light from a traffic light at night appears as a starburst of multiple lights instead of a single, sharply focused image. Sometimes I also get a ghostly haze or halo over objects. What causes this poly-oplia? This doesn't seem to be improving at the same rate as my overall distance vision.

As a result I've been avoiding extended night driving. I have been able to et by with a -1D on short distances over known roads, but I'm afraid to go on the highway.
Any suggestions here for building up to being able to drive on the highway at night?

SUCCESS :), after 5 years with no luck https://www.iblindness.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=2794 Mon, 07 Jul 2014 21:00:07 +0000 https://www.iblindness.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=2794
1- continue wearing glasses and wait until I become blind (I had only -0.5 when I was 3 years old, but it reach -8 and 4 cyl astigmatism when I was 25 years old thanks to glasses)
2- do everything I can, do my own experiments and finally find something that will work.

In order to make long story short, I followed 2'rd option Smile.

First, I was just paying attention to how my eyesight really works. I remember when I was just walking down the street (around 2-4 hours every day, peer week), and sudenly something happened Smile. For first time, I was seeing CLEAR FLASHES, and it changed EVERYTHING. Hope was born into me, and my logic was "my eyesight can work fine even without glasses, and I just only need to find out, how to replicate that clear flash Smile, and make it permanent.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Albert Einstein,
I spend 2 years researching, trying various things, and I pay attention to this Albert Einstein words Smile. If something didnt work right away, I was trying to tweak that, or forget about it and do something different. It took me TWO YEARS to find out how to replicate that "clear flashes", and I was using my clear flash exercise everywhere I go Smile. I learn, that each clear flash was like a "eye gym", you do it once, and second time it will stay longer. I was playing with "clear flashes" everywhere I go, and soon my vision started FLUCTUATE like crazy, even when I stoped doing my execise. One second I was seeing like -8, and few seconds later very clearly, it was like my eyes become lens of "camera", that was trying to adjuct focus on every object that was in front of me.

Although my eyesight was MUCH better after these clear flashes, something was not right Sad. At the end of the day, my eyes become VERY tired, I have never felt so much pain into my eyeballs, and It was very hard time for me to even move my eyes to the left or right. I have found out, that only one guy "Paul Anderson" was talking about this pain" in his ebook "Paul's Pathway To Normal Vision". Although Anderson opinion was, that this eye ball pain is good sign, my understanding was different. My opinion was that "pain is always a bad sign" it's our body way to tell us, that something is not right ("stop, or reduce what you are doing").

It took me another few years, to find out why that pain happens, and that lead me to the real root, of my eye problems Smile. You see guys, eye's arnt separate part in our bodies, so YOU NEED TO TREAT ALL MUSCLE IMBALANCES IN YOUR BODY, not just eyes!!! If just one muscle will not work as it should, your whole body will try to addopt to this new situation, and create more imbalances (and our eyes are just end result of that). For example if you have collapsed arches in your foot, that "part" will soon change your walking style, and your body will even switch off some muscles, and strain other muscles. For example abdominal muscles, if abdominals dont work as intended, your intestines will STRAIN,your lower back will strain, and your neck will strain (in the end, your eyes also). Because I learned on my mistakes, I can really see where are these muscles imbalances in poeple bodies now. But here's real problem, i'ts not easy to correct. For some people it may took YEARS to correct their muscle imbalances.

Now is the best part, when you correct that root corse, than you dont need eye exercises Smile, eye muscles will start to work (you will see HUGE fluctuations) without any effort or exercise.

Now my only exercise is just looking Smile. Yes Bates wrote about shifting, central fixation etc. but this things happen naturally, and you dont need to learn this things. When I had muscle imbalances in my body, my eyes were running like on LOW Battery, shifting was tiring, simple looking was tiring etc. Only when I have finally fixed muscle imbalances in WHOLE BODY, eye muscles started to relax and work as they should. Eyes NEED CONSTANT oxygen/nutrients/energy flow to them, and if that happen with ease, eyes will feel so much relieved. Then, your eyes will WANT YOU to look at every detail possible, and you will constantly be shifting (and see clear flashes without any pain involved).

Now I can see soo much better that it's hard to belive Smile. With every day now I have stronger eyesight, and I'm already counting days to 20/20 vision Smile. Before, my vision was fluctuating, now after few fluctuation it stays at very high level Big Grin, it's very permanent.

What I learned:

- shifting, cental fixation is very relaxing, but only when "your energy supply" works as it should Smile

- BEFORE popular eye exercise with eye roling and circles was useless for me, I had no results after these exercises. But again, it all changed when "fluctuations" started Smile. It looks like my eyes was lacking "focusing" power before, but now everytime I move my eyes during this "fucusing / fluctuations", I can feel nice streetch in my eye musles, and relaxation in the same time Smile

- If you go to sleep with strained eyes, that strain will continue entire night and your eyes will not rest. Going to sleep with already relaxed eyes is essential

- palming wasnt that good for me. In the best case, it worked only for few minutes, but later (15 minutes and more) Lack of movement only strained my eyes. Theres was a time, when I was palming literaly for hours every day, and with every hour my eyes were becoming more and more strained.

- When your eyes will be running on good energy supply (eyes will feel very relaxed, there will be no tirednes at all), then you need to build up focusing power Smile. Here's a great part, you can use PC for that!!, and still improve your vision. All what it takes is to choose corect distance, for example if you can see clearly at 30 cm distance, place PC monitor just few cm away, for example 35 cm. You will still see shapes, and vision "fluctuations" will constantly bring missing details into focus (its like gym for your eyesight). I have found out, that using PC now is very relaxing and very good exercise Smile, no wonder many people that are using PC still has good vision Smile.

- avoid using glasses at all. I was trying reduced prescriptions (I bought many pairs), but all of them strained my eyes (full prescription was the worst)

- all muscles in our body repairs trugh inflammation, and when eye myscles will start to rebuild for real, you will fell warm feeling (or even HEAT) around your eyes. Just dont confuse this with pain Smile

- remember Einstein words, if you cant see results quickly, change what you are doing, because it's not working!!! If you do eye exercise, that really works, your eyesight should fluctuate or improve the same minute.

Did you improve or not? (Sometimes you think you didn't.) https://www.iblindness.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=2788 Thu, 19 Jun 2014 20:40:26 +0000 https://www.iblindness.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=2788
Do you sometimes have a feeling that even though there are parameters improved you actually did nothing after months of exercising?

This happens to me quite often.
When I discovered I had the eye problem almost five months ago I started with natural vision improvement. I mainly stuck to the doctrine of Meir Schneider.

My ASTIGMATISM (Astigmatismus Hypermetropicus in my case) was not very high: +0.5 (Sph) and + 0.5 (Cyl) but I had it on my both eyes (different angles also) and that made me a lot of difficulties. I couldn't spend at the computer more than five minutes without being tired, I couldn't focus my gaze at the things for more than a few seconds, the sun bothered me a lot, I had a lot of strain around my eyes, my eye muscles were tense and so on and so on.

Four months later I regained the ability to stare at the things, the sun still bothers me but it bothers me less than before, I still get easily tired at the computer but now after twenty minutes. I also increased my vision acuity. I conduct tests every two weeks and I use seven different charts so I can put the figures very precisely: the left eye progressed from 20/37.5 to 20/29 and the right eye from 20/32 to 20/25. (Funny thing: the nature is not yet satisfied with this - I still strain)

But still it happens that I think I did nothing or I did a little. And some rational explanations come to my mind: the light conditions are better in June than in February - that's why you see better. You didn't change your hardware at all, you just adapted your software better to it (you learnt how to use your eyes better).

Perhaps this happens because when comes to vision even small improvement requires a lot of exercise and it also takes pretty much time. The other reason is that you are the only one in your surrounding who believes in possibility to regain the perfect vision naturally - the others just wear the glasses.

I'd like to hear your experiences related to this topic.

It may not be exact and be aware this is for Massachusetts level of clarity required, but the chart also test for other levels;

See the directions; I measured the chart on the computer, then printed it, re-measured and placed at the correct distance.

I got 20/10; 10 line clear at 20 feet and fluctuates farther away, 40 ft... in right eye.
Left eye fluctuates; 20 line at 20 feet, to 20/30. Can maintain 20/20 see 10 line at 20 ft. and farther but have to wait 5-10 seconds as I blink, relax, shift, do some central fixation. That's my c1-c2 neck injury side. When not testing; just glance at chart with that eye during day, it will flash clear 10 line 20 ft.+

Right eye is instant clear; don't need any extra practice, nothing.

Practicing at home first prevented a lot of the 'pressure to be perfect'.
Less stress=easy to pass the test.

The trick is to avoid letting the eye chart become as Bates says; a pessimum, a boring, use of effort TEST. We don't limit our interest to one line, one object all day. But the eyechart tends to do this. Result; less movement, muscle tension= temporary blur.

Back in 2008, I started a thread about my fist 4 month experience with Bate method , here is the topic
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1147

And today, July 4th 2013, I am totally CURED form myopia. No more blurry vision. My vision is 20/20 crystal sharp and clear! Its amazing.

So I will list here what I have done from May 2008 and what i think about vision improvement here.

_Basic info: I was myopic. About -2.5 to -2.75 Diop, both eyes. Wearing glasses from 15 year old to 24 year old ( in 2008). So it was about 9 year wearing galsses. Test with snell chart showed that my vision was about 20/200.

* 5/2008 => 11/2008
+ Take off glasses complely
+ Practice Long Swinging many times everyday, a few hundreds swing each time.
+ I am a programmer, work on computer a lot so I wanted to use the computer to help me to improve my vision. So I decided to put the computer screen 5 centimeters further a way from me every week. At first the screen was 30 centimeters away. And up to 11/2008, I can put it 80 to 100 centimeters away and work easily. It was a huge improvement.
+ working on the snellen chart a few time a day.

The result:
+ at first I experienced terrible headaches. But they went a way after 1 or 2 weeks when I got used to see without glasses.
+ my vision improved up to 20/40.

At that time, i was very satisfied with the result. I could live without glasses. Could work, play sport… effectively without glassed. You know, went form 20/200 to 20/40 was a huge improvement. ( but compare to my 20/20 vision today, 20/40 is nothing lol )

+ most effective exercise in this period for me was just working on computer (8 hour every day) with the screen put further away every week. Long swing helped too.

* 11/2008 to 1/2013:
didn’t practice as often as before. Got married, got 2 kids, life got much more busy. When I got busy with other things I didn’t spend enough time to practice long swing or wok on snellen chart any more. Any my main strategy:” putting the computer screen further every week” hit it maximum potential since I can not put the screen more than 1 meter away ( have you ever seen someone that sit 1.5 to 2 meter away from the computer screen at work? lol)

- But sometime when I was not so busy and had more free time, I spent a few minutes to work on the snellen chart and do the long swing as well. And although I know that I didn’t spend enough time to practice, my vision still improved during this period. I know that because when I drove, I could see things that I usually couldn’t see well before. That means my vision was improved.

* 1/2013 to Jun 15 2013 (a bout 2 weeks ago)

This period, I was not busy with work. Kids also growed and I didn’t have to spend much time to take care of them. My wife quit her job to stay home, take care of the kids and do all the house work. So this period I have free time again. And I decided to continue my journey to 20/20 vision.

Practice:
+ Long swing many times a day.
+ working on snellen chart many times a day.

Result:
Great! My vision improved significantly. Got clear vision many many times during the day. But these clear flashes were not stable. They usually went away after a link. Then came back quickly after another blink. I got so many clear 20/20 flashes, but I just counldn’t keep them permanently.

Something was missing! And I was confused!

One day, I read a part of David’s method a bout center vision

The link is: http://www.iblindness.org/davids-method ... vement.php
goto the part a bout “CLAIM YOUR CENTER OF VISION”

I notice that I don’t have good enough habit of central fixation. The idea is look at smaller spot at a time on any larger object you're looking at. The smaller the better.

And then I read somewhere that Dr Bate said that reading fine print all so help to improve vision. Bingo. I think I found what I was looking for

I immediately change the font of my webbrowser to the smallest that I can, zoom out of the webpage to the point text on the browser is so tinny but still sharp and black, and readable. Then I just sit normally ( about 1 meter from the screen) and read the webpage.
After 5 minutes I looked out of the window and everhing was bright, shard and 20/20 clear.

Now I know I found my powerful exercise. Since I am a programmer, work 8 hours a day on the computer, that mean with this newly discovered exercise, I am back to practicing fulltime a gain.

And since 2 weeks ago, I just worked on computer, reading webpage with tiny font many hours a day, and my vision improved every day.

And today, when I am outside, walking down the street with stable 20/20 vision, seeing people, houses, cars, tree, street signs clearly and easily, I feel like a happy child! That is the vision that I once had when I was a child and now I regain it after a long 5 years journey. But it is definitely worth it!!!

So that is my story. I think if I had more free time, know what to do and practice every day I can be cured sooner. But that is life, we have so much things to worry about beside improve our vision. And 4 out of 5 years I didn’t try hard to practice at all lol.

Hope everyone will get good result like me!

I hit a plateau so decided to study again on the method. I read (can't remember where) that perhaps our sight deteriorates as children as a way to protect ourselves from the harsh reality of life. I now realise how true this is.

While palming I sat thinking, trying to remember when I got glasses and what was happening at that time, and suddenly I found all these memories that I had buried. All these memories came flooding back in crisp detail.

When I was about 8 years old there was a fire at the school I was attending. We all got out safely, but the school was completely destroyed. We were moved around a lot to different places as we still had to go to school. As a young child it was difficult. I knew vaguely what had happened but could not fully remember this time of my life, until now.

When I opened my eyes things were clearer as they always are after palming. But this time it did not fade away. Over the next day my eyes went from -3.0d to -2.0d.
Remembering what was happening in our lives when we started wearing glasses will help alleviate the metal tension that cause eye strain.

I am now trying to improve my eyes to get rid of my glasses completely. Hit another plateau though, so any advise would be appreciated.

Fast forward to today and I am consistently seeing 10/15 and 20/30. I can see 10/10 most times if I really want to and have seen 20/15 before. I see the chart letters a lot blacker and clearer now. My distance of clarity has significantly improved. I used to have to put items very near to myself in order to see them. Now I can see the details further away. I can sit at my computer at a normal distance with normal print. This is something I have only recently accomplished.

I have read from this site a few times and have found the posts helpful and insightful. I am contributing now because of my latest conclusions based on what I have read from others and my own experience.

This is my own success story in that I think I have finally pin-pointed the key to vision improvement. It makes sense of all my past failure and aligns with the teachings of Dr Bates.

Whenever I experienced a clear flash, it came after a moment of focused attention. I often would ask myself afterwards, "What was it I was thinking when that happened?" As for my eyes, I wasn't even aware I was doing anything with them.

Whenever I experienced a longer period of better-than-usual vision, it was always during a time of generally focused activity. I either didn't have time to think about my eyes or I had decided I didn't want to be thinking about my eyes in case I made them strain more and missed something.

There had been times in the past when I would employ a technique such as swinging or shifting, or even a technique of my own devising. These techniques would either be physical or mental in nature. For a while a particular thing would work like magic, giving me near 20/20 vision for longer periods of time over maybe a couple of days or nearly a week. Then it would suddenly stop working and even become a strain. I would be left utterly demoralised, wondering if I will ever be able to see normally. My miracle cure had stopped working and my sight would return to it's previous state. This happened on numerous occasions with different techniques.

Recently I have realised, after reading posts on this site, that it is not so much seeing one thing best but thinking one thing best which is the key to success with the Bates Method. My own experience backs this up. Over the past several days I have been focussing my awareness. I have done this in various ways such as:

Focussing on the here-and-now. I am not good at living in the present and I find the practise uncomfortable, but as a result all other thoughts about other things outside of the present moment fall by the wayside somewhat and my mind is centralised in the moment.

Thinking generally but simply about the activity I am doing. For example - "I am watching my son's swimming lesson". I have to qualify such a thought with things like "This is all I am doing - not straining, just watching". Basically I am getting the message to my mind that what I am doing is utterly simple.

Letting my attention shift naturally, unforced, between various points such as things going on around me to sensations around my eyes and then maybe back to a visual point or a particular thought which something triggers. This I do in a relaxed way.

Thinking about one thing while maintaining an easy awareness of my visual field. While being aware specifically of both things I think my attention jumps backwards and forwards between what I am seeing and what I am thinking so that my attention is always on one thing best.

I have found that by focusing my attention in general (not just visual attention but mainly mental attention) has brought about a much more consistent and greatly improved level of vision. I still need to practise this and I still have a long way to go but I do believe I am on the right road now.

My theory is that a focused mind brings about focused eyes. I have spent most of my time not thinking about anything in particular but everything at once with dissipated attention. No wonder I'm not terribly "switched on" most of the time! During those times when a technique was working well, I believe that my mind was focused on that technique. I really was thinking one thing best. But I focused on the technique rather than understanding why it was working. After a while I suppose either my brain got tired from focussing too much on one thing, or my general attention began to dissipate again. Not quite sure what happened really. Even now I have to change what my mind is focused on. I need to keep my mind focused on something though and I think it desperately needs the stimulation as I seem to take very little interest in anything. I find that even thinking about mundane things which I look at clears my vision. This is helpful if I am in danger of being bored like when I am waiting in the car while my wife is on a shopping rampage with my credit card after saying she is just popping into the supermarket for some milk.

I would say it's all about being relaxed, easy thoughts, natural shifting of attention, a holistic kind of awareness, thinking about the things you are seeing, engaging in life with your whole person and whole attention. Would we not rather be truly involved with the world around us without having to think about our eyesight? Isn't this how normal sighted people operate. They are thinking one thing best and fully engaging their whole being in each moment.

My prescription is -4 in one eye and -3.75 in the other. This is so you know that I do have a not insignificant level of myopia and that the level of vision improvement the Bates Method has gained me is generally substantial.

Basically, I had seen remarkable improvements in my eyesight over the past 4 months and decided to book an appointment at the optician. I knew my eyesight was better in 2009 than it was before the September of 2012 so I was a little anxious when I went along not knowing if my prescription was gonna be any higher or still the same.

In fact, when I went into the room to get my eyes tested, I could read every line she asked me to with my right eye and all but one with my left eye. I was told my eyes had improved quite a bit since last time and that there was no point in giving me a prescription as it would only make my eyesight worse (there wasn't a prescription weak enough for my right eye and it would only be the first "step" of prescription for my left eye). She also told me to stop wearing the old lenses which were now deemed to strong for my eyes.

Now the real incredible thing about this is that she was measuring my eyesight against my eyesight when I was 15 which was obviously much better than my eyesight when I was 17/ just turned 18. This means that since September 2012, using the Bates method for merely 4 months has returned my eyesight better than it was 3 years ago and possibly more since my eyesight is actually perfect in my right eye, although I know from experience it isn't quite perfect at night.

I think the key to using the Bates method is actually not trying but more concentrating on what you are seeing. Although you sometimes think you are concentrating on what you are seeing you might not be fully. The best way to make sure you are concentrating is to "register" what you see as David says. Also, I don't believe that myopees will benefit from the phrase "don't try to see", this is precisely what I did previously, I just let my eye roll around and look at the air in front of me without actually focusing on anything, if you are myopic from my experience it does seem naturally more difficult to get used to concentrating on objects but the more you do it, I assure you, the more natural and relaxed your eyesight will feel.

Thank you for reading, if you have any questions just pm me or something, I am not on here much though anymore because, although I don't need a prescription, I know my eyesight can still be improved and I'm trying to keep away from computers etc as much as possible at least until my left eye catches up with my right eye. One thing I should also mention is that I wasn't a strongly short sighted person that needed glasses all the time but I was short sighted enough that it was uncomfortable to go about my life previously without corrective lenses.
