World Darts Champion Saves Eyesight With Bates Method

darts champion saves eyesight

5-time World Darts Champion, Raymond van Bernevald, has credited the Bates Method for saving his eyesight.

At 48 years old, he’s right at the age where people who previously never suffered vision problems start to notice their vision slipping. However, his problem was not the typical presbyopia, literally “old age sight”, defined as an the eyes being unable to focus as well for near objects. Instead, he became diabetic. The elevated blood sugar typically causes the lens of the eye to swell and most commonly produce, in effect, hyperopia (farsightedness).

This suggests evidence that palming can benefit people with diabetes-induced hyperopia.

Darts players often struggle with their eyes because of the light and the stress of playing every single week.

I noticed that my eyes were getting bad because of my diabetes but I don’t like playing with glasses.

So, I went on YouTube the other day and found something about “palming”. Basically you rub the palms of your hand together until they get extremely warm.

you place your palms on your eyes to warm them up. If you sit like this for ten minutes, you’ll have better vision. I’m doing it twice a day – morning and night.

I had known about this for two years but I was too lazy to do it. I do it ten minutes in the morning or before I go to sleep. And my vision is fine now.

Trust me I already had an appointment on January 16 to laser my eyes because these are my working tool, they have to be right. You can’t have blurred vision. But I have now cancelled my appointment because I am fine.

These methods of vision improvement are not well-known and not always very refined, and it’s rare that any sort of celebrity endorses them. Legendary novelist Aldous Huxley, author of Brave New World, had also credited the Bates Method for saving his eyesight in 1940 when it became so bad that he became unable to read or write. He published the book The Art of Seeing on his experience and went on to write many more books, screenplays and essays.
