When you look at the chart, notice when you get a clearer image, then think about what preceded it -- did you have a pleasant thought? Did you look out of the window for a moment, or close your eyes briefly? You want to catch yourself relaxing, then do more of that. If palming doesn't do it for you, try the Long Swing, & also make sure you're breathing deeply.

Don't try palming for that long. Many people find palming for extended periods of time stressful, especially if you are the type who gets restless quickly.

what other things do you do besides palming?

go to Clark Night's site and look at the diagrams for long swinging, you will actually find it quite easy.

Take Nancy's advice!

I agree with nancy and blauw. It sounds like 30 minutes is waaayyyy too long for you to be palming - I'd keep it to sessions of 3 minutes or less. Or even just stop when it feels like enough time has gone by. Then, instead of immediately trying to see something, just relax, breathe out, sit up, or stand up, and follow the lightflow to find where you should be looking first. Maybe your Snellen chart is incorrectly positioned within the room for your vantage point including your posture? I think that within whatever ambient lighting a person is in, there are areas which are illuminated differently (shadows, glare, darkness, etc.) many if not most of which can't be seen clearly before first finding and attending to the optimally-lit area(s). Optimal areas best reflect the available light to stimulate the retina, which when stimulated can then be used to see more clearly in other areas. STAY TALL! You're looking to (re)train your visual system, which includes much more than just your own eyeballs. All that may be needed is some slight shift or head wag. Stop staring at glare or into the darkness. Don't try to see everything clearly all at once - like a little kid probably does. Clear vision probably requires a million different little things to be correctly aligned. Maybe that's why we have 120 million rods and 6 million cones in each retina. And remember, the angle of clear vision is only about 15 degrees of the 240 degrees of the visual field. Good luck! Keep your chin up! Keep looking up! Stay positive! Keep smiling!

It says "palimg" because it's a typo of the original poster.

Try the advice that is given, palm for as long as you feel comfortable, if you feel that palming for 30 minutes is uncomfortable then shorten it, if 20 minutes is still uncomfortable then drop it to 10 minutes and if that is still uncomfortable try 3 minutes or 5 minutes or maybe 8 minutes.....
