I was thinking about the kind of mental attitude needed to succeed with the bates method and thought I'd try and summarise some of the important factors.
1) UNDERSTANDING
Understand the principles and habits of natural vision. understand why staring and diffusing creates strain and lowers vision. Understand why glasses are a quick fix and very unhealthy in the long run.
2) SACRIFICE
Be willing to put aside time for palming, sunning etc or whatever it is you decide works best for you to relax the eyes.
Be willing to live with blurry vision temporarily until clarity returns.
3) PATIENCE & PERSEREVENCE
Be patient and understand that it could be a long process.
Persevere when you hit sticking points. There may be times when your vision doesn't improve any further for ages or even gets worse for a bit. It's important that you don't give up at these times because further improvement could be just around the corner.
4) COMMITMENT
Be totally committed 100% to improving your vision. There's no point dabbling with it. A bit of palming here and there won't do much good. Neither will practicing correct vision habits just some of the time. Your whole mindset needs to be set towards regaining clarity otherwise you are likely to give up.
5) BELIEF
Believe that what you're doing is working and have a positive attitude. Trust in the process and know that your eyesight will be normal again.
Anyone about to embark on the journey of vision improvement should consider whether they understand how it works, are willing to make sacrifices, have the patience and perseverance to follow it through, are totally committed, and believe it will work. Because if you do you are sure to succeed!
I will agree that any type of activity like this takes persistence. But let
me add the following.
5) BELIEF
Believe that what you're doing is working and have a positive attitude. Trust in the process and know that your eyesight will be normal again.
What I do suggest for these "second-opinion" methods it that the person
have a belief that he is doing the right thing -- and going in
the right direction.
That is why I suggest that the person read a Snellen, before he starts
his vision-improvement work, so that, as time goes on, he can
see his vision clearing under his own control.
While "belief" is necessary before you start this vision-clearing work,
it is also essential that you see your vision clear from
say 20/100 to 20/40 or better (pass the DMV). If you see
these results youself, then no one will be able
to convince you that these second-opinion method
do not work or are not effective.
