Just relaxing?

As I understand it, all the exercises, activities and strategies people follow are supposed to relax the eyes. Would it be productive to simply sit, try to relax the eyes and focus on things?

It could be. It would have the best chance of being productive if you were doing something while sitting, like visualizing, or just being ultra-attentive to the images, sounds, feelings, and thoughts, both around you and in you. Do you find yourself taking a deep braeth once in a while to compensate for not breathing? Are you tightening your neck? What it comes down to is recognizing the habits of strain you're putting yourself through all the time, including at this moment, and avoiding them by using whatever methods.

The thing is that when we "try" to relax when we're under a chronic strain, it usually isn't very successful, because if we knew so well how to avoid the strain that it just takes a few minutes of sitting to banish it, it wouldn't develop to be chronic in the first place.
