Amount of lighting for accurate eyechart measurements

Hi,

I find the amount of lighting makes a difference when taking eye chart measurements. How much bright should the chart be? hould there be? Should I be taking these measurements in a sunlit ,it room first thing in morning or in a dark room with a fluorescent light shining on the chart? What's closer to the way they test at the dmv?

The best readings so far have been in the morning with natural sunlight but too much light seems to reduce contrast and make the letters faint.

I'd go visit the DMV near you and check out the lighting there. I doubt if there's a standard for this. And if the place has windows, get tested on a sunny day!
