Farsighted and nearsighted??

A family member of mine is around 50 years old and is farsighted.  She said that she shes stuff up close blurry, but stuff far away a little blurry.  She can still read letters far away.  Is her eyeball deteriorating?  I dont want her to get bifocals.

When somebody is farsighted it doesn't mean they can see perfectly far away. It just means they can see at a moderately far distance better than close-up. In fact, distance vision is never perfect in hyperopia (farsightedness). My dad (52 years old) is really presbyopic/hyperopic and he can't read the 20/20 line.

Is her eyeball deteriorating?

I don't think so. It's probably just eyestrain.
