-4 diopters.. beginner.. how to start??

hey freinds.. i am mukesh from india.. 20 yrs old.. waering glasses since i was in 3 rd standard.. my myopia progressed from -0.5 to -4 .
i want to get rid of glasses.. how do i start??
last week i have been to a big hospital where the docs dicouraged me saying there is no cure for myopia..
please help..
shal i discard my glasseS??
i cannot read a book without glasses.. i have to keep it at a distance of 7 inches..
please help...
