This sounds like a myth or something that has long been disproved. Staring at the sun doesn't seem like a smart thing to do. I could be wrong but I always thought that staring at the sun can damage your eyesight?

Go read the Bates material -- we are not recommending staring at the sun. Sunning with closed eyes, swinging your face slowly back facing the sunlight, and forth is what Bates recommended.
